What NRC considers competitive

Hello,
I too am looking for some anecdotal feedback on competitiveness for DCO Intel.

I am presently working as a senior manager in physical security at a tech company and have about 8 years civ experience in corporate security and risk management within aerospace, critical infrastructure, and cleared defense contracting companies. I have completed 6.5 years as an Air Force reservist, separating at E-6 in avionics maintenance with a few command collaterals and spent 5 years AD enlisted as a Sonar Technician with ACINT analysis experience, VBSS, numerous command collaterals, TTs, etc.

GPA: 3.74 BA-Security Management, 3.95 MA- Business & Organizational Security Management, currently attending Executive MBA at state school
Volunteering: Numerous global physical security professional boards and committees
Letters: Currently have 1x SELRES CDR, and 3 LCDR letters, working to have about 6 letters including CIV employers
Clearance: TS/SCI - Agency adjudicated FSP
Awards: NAM, MOVSM, good conducts
Military: All Evals ranked MPs, +4/5's in AF Reserve, FIT always within standards

Much appreciated!
@exNavyOffRec - now that this thread is gaining activity again, may I ask your feedback as well? Thank you!

I would say the unknown is your background, if you still have contacts in China and/or family in China and communicate with them that could very well be an issue.

Language skill don't matter as you have been looking at being an officer and we have enlisted to do the translating.

i do have family in china, and yes i keep contact with my family.my father right now is under home arrest by the communist because of his faith in god,i have been deal with communist since i was 8,part of the reason why i want to be an intel officer,

i did lots of research about what i can do with my major,im fine if i cant make to intel, but with my major, there are not lot of options for me,too old to be swo,nor IP.so with your knowledge, what else i can choose except intel ?thank you

You are not eligible for 18XX communities (IW Officers). It would be a stretch for you to even become an IS (intelligence Specialist, enlisted), and that would be after you no longer had contact, and you AND your close family renounce citizenship.

I'm sure it isn't the news you wanted, but it's the reality of the situation. You could maybe be a SWO and that's it.

I was a bit cautious saying this because I'm not a "qualified" Security Officer/SSO, but from my experiences the person is not eligible for a TS and even possibly a secret due to the China connections.

I’m ok with the bad news,I kinda guess it would happened like that,as much as I want to be a SWO,I can’t,on navy website it said SWO has to be citizen plus the parents also have to be citizen.so my question is with my major, what program I can choose now?can you please enlighten me?

I have to say I understand why I’m not qualified, but still I can do a lot of when it about China, I know how communist work ,I dealt with them face to face.but it is what it is.I can live with it.it’s just because I studied intelligence as my bachelors degree, and since I can’t choose anything in this field, what else I can do if I want to enlist as an officer?i didn’t really see any other option with my degree

I would guess you could continue on to get your masters and become an academic if you insist on staying in the realm of intelligence.

Best of luck.

Even with master degree I’m still facing the clearance problem am I? I don’t really have to be an intel officer,I understand the reason why I can’t be,but can I still join the navy with my major?dose navy sign me another positivions which is not restricted?or my major only allow me apply for intel?

Technically you could go anywhere from SWO… if you meet the security clearance standards.

Your issue not to shoot you down is your family relationship with China. There’s other factors that come into play also. Those of which probably can’t be discussed on here or elsewhere…

Just ask your recruiter if you can fill out the SF86 and see what they say
