Still have it. Can't get it to run on Windows 10.It reminds me of the ORCA for anyone who remembers playing Command & Conquer (great game):
Wonder how the Plopter drivers feel about robots on their wing?

Well, after 10 years it looks like the Marines is trying to get money in the 2018 budget to actually start developing the MUX (MAGTF Unmanned eXpeditionary) armed VTOL UAV about the size of the MQ-9 Reaper to 'escort' V-22's. And they want it to be ready in 10 years. I am curious how well UAV's will do 'escorting' V-22's, UAV's are ubiquitous over the battlefield now but they haven't really been used in an aircraft escort role yet and they don't usually operate well in contested environments. I am curious what the Marines on the board think.
The idea is that you'd have the option to fly it from a station inside the Osprey (kind of how Apache guys are doing it with Shadow only with a dedicated UAV crew). I'm not sure how well that would work, but I'd be willing to give it a shot.
further challenges the "need" of the Marine Corps to have manned VTOL tacair assets like the Harrier and F35, which is already somewhat questionable in today's joint combat environment.
So what you're saying is- VTOL is relevant because we have Amphibs, but we have Amphibs because we have VTOL.That's how I used to look at the problem too. Seen another way, though, it's not that they need VTOL capabilities in combat, but since they deploy from an Amphib deck, they do need that capability to get to the fight in the first place.
Not at all. We have Amphibs because they provide the same kind of access that a CVN does. You know, plus that whole USMC expeditionary thing you guys do.So what you're saying is- VTOL is relevant because we have Amphibs, but we have Amphibs because we have VTOL.
We have people skills! What the hell is wrong with you people!!
Yea, but we're the Marine Corps. The entire essence to our mantra is "we bring everything we need." The Corps isn't going to want to rely on Air Force or Navy Air assets when deploying an expeditionary unit. Especially considering the Commandants desire to get us back to being the amphibious expeditionary force we once were. The risk of having a successful VTOL robot that can do armed escort/CAS will be that it further challenges the "need" of the Marine Corps to have manned VTOL tacair assets like the Harrier and F35, which is already somewhat questionable in today's joint combat environment.
Guess you don't need the Navy helos to do SAR then.....or the 'new' ESG concept.Yea, but we're the Marine Corps. The entire essence to our mantra is "we bring everything we need." Do you mean the MEU concept, or the MEU operating unsupported?Great in theory and something to practice to to a degreee but not going to be done in reality, with a few limited exceptions.

A MEU operating unsupported.
