The Russians have done it again

The Russians fail at life. All they're good at is killing their own people for 300+years(serfdom to Stalin to corrupt democracy). One of the most pathetic histories ever.

Russia is a nation responsible for some of the greatest art, architecture, music, literature, and philosophy in the history of the world. They are a great people in certain ways. And I believe under Catherine the Great, had some great prosperity.

They also have a country with some of the most fertile farmland in the world, along with being among the most blessed in terms of natural resources (coal, oil, natural gas).

Unfortunately, Lenin (a guy so murderous he made Stalin look tame in some ways) and then Stalin completely wrecked the country outright with socialism.

Turning a socialist country into a thriving free-market capitalist one is incredibly difficult and complex, so it isn't surprising they are struggling to create a modernized country.

Same kinda arguement that outside of the Holocaust and World Domination Scheme Hitler did a lot of good for Germany.

Managed to Mobilize an entire nation in the middle of a depression suffering from massive inflation. If it hadnt been for his crazy side there are many historians that have theorized that Second World War would happened but with them as part of the Allies.

He wasn't arguing if they were good or bad, he was disputing the contention that they were pathetic.

Yeah, and Baghdad used to be the world center of culture and science. Natural resources are a mixed blessing.

And I'm pretty sure living in Russia sucked under most of the Czars / Tsars too before Communism.

Personally, I'm inclined to nominate them for most consistantly shitty culture on Earth. As I see it, their net bad times far outweigh their happy ones.

But what the fuck do I know?

It's not so much an economic issue as it is a cultural issue. To the Russians, we are all part of a giant "rat race" scrambling to get a piece of the big cheese. To Americans, the Russian general Russian attitude seems like a lazy, fatalistic approach to life.

However, our individualism and drive for improvement is what has allowed us to become the #1 economic, political, and military power in the world. The Russian culture doesn't emphasize that as much, and they probably won't anytime soon.
