This unaltered image was captured at Beale Air Force Base, CA, in the late 1980's. All of the subjects wearing pressurized flight suits are actual pilots or back-seat reconnaissance systems officers. I find it sad that we as a country seemed to simply give up on cutting-edge aerospace engineering. Sure we still have the x-stage demonstrators every once in a while, but nothing like the SR-71/A-12, X-15, or U-2.

And even now that we are finally moving back towards that, they're all going to be unmanned. It's a shame, those SR-71 guys were really at the top of the pyramid when it came to actual flying gigs (i.e. not being shot into space as a passenger on a rocket).

Some Plotters flew a missing man over the Pentagon Friday.............didn't know the damn things could go into the vertical like that.
