From the article said:
Protesters have said more than 100 people have died in the crackdown, but Beijing denies that and has accused supporters of the Dalai Lama of orchestrating the violence.

Granted I've never met him, but the Dalai Lama never struck me as a violent guy.

Think you have to volunteer for the rollerblade unit?

I know we've discontinued the joke, but...

I heard 42% get rollerblades.

I think trying to put out the flame is a worthy symbolic effort, so long as they don't hurt anyone. Honestly it disgusts me that the Olympic Committee flat out said that human rights were not the purview of the Olympics. If ANY international event should champion human rights, it should be the Olympics! I know that during the Nazi era the Olympics were held in Berlin - but that doesn't justify their actions now.

I don't think the Olympics is about anything other than money any more.

Having a sister that won the silver medal in Albertville I disagree. While companies may be just looking to make a dime, to the contestants it still means so much more. Ask the people who had spent their entire life working towards the Olympics how it felt when they got canceled due to politics in '80.

It does mean a lot to the contestants, as it should, but I think the meaning, purpose and reason for the Olympics has been forgotten. I strongly believe that the athletes are some of the best in the world and they are there to win, for their country and for themslves. I don't thinkt he Olympic commission cares much about the meaning of the games.

What event did she win silver in?

I think they decided to go to San Fran because there was a high percent of Chinese population. I heard or read that somewhere, I will look for a source when I am feeling less lazy.

The whole thing is crazy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Summer_Olympics If you look at this, you can see that China won by a landslide to host it. I have to wonder why anybody in their right mind would vote that way. China is trying to lower pollution for the Olympic games, then why would you want to have it there in the first place. Send all the world best athletes to the place with the worst air quality. Give me a break.

A few pics I took at the event. Camera barely survived as individuals on both sides did not want me recording some confrontations...

Caution some offensive language...

and just think. If all of those protesters pooled all of those resources, poster board made by Chinese sweat shops, gas to travel to stores and labor making those signs together... I bet they could have built a whole block of houses :D .... you know in that bad neighborhood none of these people live in...

She was a member of the short track speed skating relay team.
