Wasn't the VSTOL Yak a fan design, rather than vectored thrust (i.e Harrier) vertical flight? Making it more of a precursor to the F-35B than a copy of the Harrier
 
The Russkie version of our F-22--first prototype flight isn't due until '09, at least...Pak-FA // T-50.

If you poke into it, the Buran and Shuttle are very different in detail, even if they're visually similar.

The most obvious difference is one is on a stick and one has 20+ years of space travel on it :D

Actually, there were multiple Buran orbiters. The one on the stick was just their test vehicle for aerodynamics, and had jet engines. Here's what happened to the one that actually made a (unmanned) spaceflight. The wikipedia article on the Buran's pretty interesting.
