Rates and STA-21 Packages

Hey all, Im trying to plan out my Navy career path and wanted your opinions on it. I currently am active duty as an IT which I became only because my eyesight wasn't good enough for aviation rates which I originally wanted to do. Recently, I received PRK surgery and am applying for the highly coveted pilot option in STA-21. Thing is, if I don't make it at first, I was going to cross-rate into an aviation rate like AO or something... Just trying to get closer to those planes :) Does rate matter in STA-21 packages?

For you...no. If you wanted to select a designator with restricted NEC's, or were a Nuke...yes.
