Q'ns about retired airframe

Nothing could help Russian Navy since the new naval armament procurement program is 45% less than previous one:rolleyes:
Forget the carriers, DDGs, God bless the industry to complete the new SSBNs and that would be enough, evidently. There will not be the restored blue-water Russian Navy. Bad and good, as usually. Well, anyway thanks for help:D:D

BTW, here the people take seriously the rumors that the navigation system of that MV collided with USS McCain could have been hacked. If so, no one in the Navy can warrant that there wasn't some gov operatives behind it. With general hate the Russian naval officer corps has to our feds, the resistance to new network technologies becomes higher here. It quite could be that you just think you drive the ship while driving ship, but actually it's someone else... A new trend in naval warfare to compensate the lack of firepower ;-)

And another one about retired practice: when A3s tried to bomb the Viet Kong having no bombsights, some crews used stolen gunsights from A1 or A4 attack airplanes. True? Stolen?

They think the USS DDG was hacked, or the MV was hacked?

Having read the report of the mishap, it's pretty clear that neither vessel was hacked and the collision had nothing to do with navigation, per se.

Just rumors, nothing more. But modern commercial maritime navigation, vessel tracking and propulsion control systems all have internet-accessible features thus, in theory, are the subjects to cyber attacks.

Gents,

VSTOL question to Marines. While Harrier II is not retired yet, I think it won't last long enough, moreover, Brits who had created it once are already forgot it. The question - what if that distilled water tank of 500 lbs used during "cold burner" vertical landing is running empty, but airplane has not landed yet at the moment? Is the landing possible with that tank void?

The first rule of empty water tank capabilities is that YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT empty water tank capabilities. Next thing you know, the Russians will see everything...they'll see the big board!

Not all maritime aircraft have a good match of speed/altitude/range-performance with a supported air wing. AFAIK the P-8 in theory would do pretty well here, though that's a mission set the Poseidon community just does not seem to need right now. We don't invest in a lot of spare airplanes, airframe life, and cushions for time between overhauls/depot to provide for yet another mission set.
No thanks, and fuck anyone that would entertain the idea. Colossal waste of a specialized airframe, not to mention manpower.

Not at all. We're not the devils, though are trying hard:D That's for Germans. They won't ask stupid questions in pseudo-literature style, they will instead send the exchange pilots and WSOs to NAVAIR squadrons:eek:

Water is only necessary for some flights. When the weather is cool enough, water isn’t carried.
