Protecting Your Eyes

Hey guys,

I work as a web developer sitting at a computer for eight hours a day ,five days a week. I have about ten months before I submit my application for sNA, and was wondering if anyone had any good advice to protect my eyes and maintain my vision the best I can.

My eyes were around 20/35 uncorrected the last time I had a vision test (over a year ago). I don't want them to fall outside standards, and I do have glasses. Would it be best to not use my glasses and teach my eyes to work on their own, or would using my glasses as often as possible be the best for my eyes to maintain their vision?

Thanks.

Glasses are often used to maintain your eyesight at its current level. So I would keep using them. I was in a similar situation to you, and every hour or so I would make sure I looked away. Do some eye exercises like looking up, down, left, and right for 20-30 seconds in each direction at a time.

I also went and started taking bilberry extract and lutein after I received my final select. I'm not sure if they help or not, but I figure it probably can't hurt. But I have the same concerns you do. I had a 20/30 in one of my eyes for distance, and a 20/35 for one near. I'm hoping that between now and NAMI I can maintain that.

Another vote for wearing the glasses. Also, proper lighting, hydration, rest breaks, etc., will help.

Went to MEPS and passed with 20/30 corrected to 20/20. Looks like over the last year of working on computers my vision didn't really change. Strange because I don't feel like my eyesight is very good... hope it stays that way through my flight physical.

I was the same way brother.....worried a bunch about time spent on AW, porn, games, etc, and in the end it all worked out fine. Congrats!

Reminds me of webmd.com: you go on there with a cold, you come out self-diagnosed with a rare blood disease.

OSU and I were in NROTC together. He's a ginger and a helo guy, but I won't hold that against him :)
