Below is a link to a page depicting what aircraft look like from an observer's view in a second craft. This will give you an idea of the spatial perception area of the ASTB. Once you have ascertained the position, heading, pitch and bank angle of the aircraft you are studying, deciding on what the instruments should look like becomes much easier. This chart is beneficial because it gives you stated attitudes and a visual representation.

The chart impressed me little, but I'm over-whelmed that you know Randall Jarrell & can quote from "Death of the Ball-Turret Gunner". Now throw in some vintage E.E. Cummings and you go to the head of the class!
