When you tell them to, they will. There's a power supply to the rear kanuter valve, which if you have an APS-115 is critical to ensuring track while scan dynamics continue to operate at a greater than 70% capacity. So, yes, a FO should check the doppler well, especially if they're new and haven't seen the location of said power supply.

When aircraft get old, things can start coming off if you ask too much of 'em. RIP for the 3 guys trying to do their job with a heavy load. Didn't take a lot of G to ruin their day.

The captain of that C-130A also suffered a structural failure/seperation while just taking off the step in a PBY firebomber after collecting water on the lake. The PBY split in two while departing. Both crew members (in the PBY) blacked out from the impact with the water and woke up in the hospital - thanks to some boat-going patrons. Guess the FO at the time turned Captain wasn't so lucky again. Tough business, that fire-bombing.

There are so many P-3's on the line around here that I can't figure out if I've been sucked into a time warp and spit out in the 70's. . .or if I'm just on another repo to the boneyard.

Sarcasm meter might not be properly calibrated, but do you guys grab parts/birds at the boneyard regularly?

In my short time in the community, it's been mostly dropping off birds, although I know for a fact we picked a whole one up from there @6 months ago.
