OCS Possible Degrees

Hello,

I am currently looking into applying for Coast Guard OCS and was wondering about what college majors they accept. The Coast Guard webpage says they are looking for basically technical degrees only. I am polisci/sociology and want to know if that essentially automatically excludes me. Any inside info would be great. Thanks in advance.

No, a technical degree is not required, but depending on the needs of the service, it could add to one's overall package. You may be thinking of Direct Commission engineers.

Bob is correct.

I have a friend on the helo side who has a degree in Park Management - ie state/national park management.. can't imagine how techincal that is.

The Coast Guard is becoming more competitive.

Me personally, I don't have a degree and just winged today... but that's another story.
