If accepted to the NPS, do you remain on active duty and receive your regular pay, housing, and food allowances for the 2-4 years while you are there?

Yes, it's one hell of a boondoggle.

Don't expect to be there 4 years. Most programs are 18-24 months. If you have been out of school for a while, you might get a 3 month extension.

It's right up there with one of the greatest deals you can get.

Fantastic opportunity - taking family aspects into account, was the best tour of my time in the Navy. And proved VERY beneficial in my post-Navy career.
