I've heard a few stories about using Micorsoft Flight Simulator with the T-34 patch for getting a little extra practice. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and knows where to get the patch and what version of MFS to purchase. Also what type of yoke/ rudder pedals do you need to purchase? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

You can use FS98 or anything after. Not so good for flying the plane; so stick, pedals combo not THAT important. Get the scenery and cockpit/plane characteristics (they used to be on navygouge.com. . somebody here has them) good for learning the area and practicing procedures. If you do get rudder pedals, strongly recommend USB kind. Also getting a proThrottle or something like it might help you too. Then in conjunction with the procedures that are on navygouge will probably set you up pretty well.

It only works with FS98 or did a few months ago. It works great for course rules, pattern work, and other maneuvers. Just to get the procedures down at least.

Honk if you demand satisfaction.

Hey do any of you have the FS professional edition for 2002? It does have a program in it where you can make your own plane...not sure if that would work to mess around with it and try to "build" the T-34??? Let me know if anyone has tried this?? or would like to do some teamwork and try it??

I think the point is that this has already been done for FS98. Complete with console layout, flight characteristics, etc. I have the new version of FS, but haven't tried it; Release 1.05 of the Micro-Sim says it is compatible with FS98 and FS2000.

That probably means It won't work with FS2002 because I have some other games from my old system (98) that will not work on this new system w/XP. Oh, well...pros and cons of microsoft!

I'm sorry, but your name cracks me up. Have you ever watched In Living Color? With the fly girls?

Just a side note, the T-45 cockpit for FS98 blows donkey dong. Might as well go to the IFT everyday.

The link I posted, the zip file is corrupt, and can't be fixed. Download the files from https://www.cnet.navy.mil/tw5/nawctsd/website/ as posted above.

I'm using it on FS 2002 just fine. I do get an error gps.gau may not work properly.. eh, load it anyways.

It won't automatically install into FS2002.. You'll have to do it manually. Instructions on link above.

I'm actually tryinig to figure out how to add a realistic terrain mesh with elevation via official data downloaded from USGS, but having a rough go of it.

As far as how good of job they did.. the cockpit of the MSFS T-34C GPS looks just like the hi-res picture of the cockpit posted elsewhere in the forums. Almost identicle.

Added scenery isn't "impressive", but, you kinda get used to knowing which direction the different airfields are in the area.

Got tired of the default scenery so made a minor change.

One last thing, there is a great Landclass Scenery add-on for FS2002 of Florida and a little bit of Alabama. Really adds to the scenery.

Really nice review, screen shots, etc here:

Before (Default Scenery):

With Florida Landclass loaded:

Can be used in conjunction with the Navy's addon scenery posted in the link above.

File Description:
Moon over Miami. Fly the Sunshine State under a full moon or in the bright sunshine and you will see a vast improvement in the default scenery if you use the Joe Watson, Bob Brown, Florida Landclass Scenery Files. Created from the U.S. Geological Survey National Landcover Database and hand edited by Joe and Bob this is the most accurate scenery available for the State of Florida. Six individual bgls transform the default scenery into a recognizable landscape as you fly from the Keys, up the East Coast over Miami, and Fort Lauderdale then out over the Everglades on your way past Tampa to the Panhandle all the way to just east of New Orleans near Slidell and Bogalusa. The small download is easy to install. Just unzip into your FS2002Scenery folder. It won't overwrite anything.

You can see what the differences are in these jpgs.

1. Default MS FS2002 Scenery
http://www.asherons.net/~elder/fs/aa.jpg

2. Default MS FS2002 Scenery w/ Navy Addon
http://www.asherons.net/~elder/fs/bb.jpg

3. New Flordia Landclass Scenery only
http://www.asherons.net/~elder/fs/cc.jpg

4. New Flordia Landclass Scenery w/ Navy Addon
http://www.asherons.net/~elder/fs/dd.jpg

Problem with Navy addon, is it was made for FS2000. Sometimes I get elevation issues when landing. Nothing major. Just the wheels go below the surface of the runway. There is a method to "flatten" all layers in one area to same elevation, just involves editing a text file. See "Getting More From Flight Simulator 2002" PDF file on the FS2002 CD-ROM.

Another issue with the Navy Addon Scenery is the runways are at slightly different heading than MSFS2002... and I "think" MSFS2002's are more accurate... if you can believe that.

But, in spite of the Navy addon having the added hangars, water towers, etc, I pretty much am only using the Landclass file for FS2002 without the Navy addon.

If you look at the CC and DD pictures, you can see what happens when you addon the Navy stuff on top of the Landclass - takes a lot of detail away.

I may tinker with adding scenery that would go with just the Florida Landclass file, or perhaps modify the Navy's addon so it works correctly with FS2002, since Whiting isn't the only field they worked over.

Something to remember is that the Navy Addon Scenery was originally designed for FS98, then upgraded to FS2000, since I guess that is what they use in the learning center. It may have been needed before as FS98 and FS2000 may not have had all the needed airfields. FS2002 has darn near every airport in the world. And FS2004 is around the corner. :)

The Navy Addon aircraft are just fine as is, I'm assuming.

Although, someone did up a new T-45 Goshawk United States Navy for FS2000/FS2002. Last modifed November 9, 2002 and is a good 4.2MB Download - heftier than the Navy's addon. The plane can be downloaded here:
http://www.simviation.com/files/1military/T45.zip

Anyway, hope this helps.

No problem. I fixed my links by the way, in regards to the screen shots I took in game.

If you compare pictures aa and cc, you can see a big difference between default scenery and the new Landclass. What's great is, you get no performance hit. Flies just as smooth.

Downside to the Navy addon scenery in FS2002, is it really wipes out a lot of the Landclass file.

But, then without the Navy addon, lose the water towers as refernces and some other features. Tough balance :)

And if your curious, the "home page" for the Florida Landclass Project is at http://www.bbbrown.com/bbbrown/fltsim/landclassproj.htm

Good luck.
