I flew a nav leg today with an iPad Mini and the Foreflight app (the $150 subscription). First time using both. It was about an hour hop and I didn’t go above 15k. Only a few observations at this point. The glare sucked at times as it sit on my left knee. No issues with the Mini’s internal GPS. It tracked me from start up until shut down…the app showed me taxing out, on the SID, on the J-route (that’s on the high charts for you chopper dudes) and on the TACAN approach. I don’t see a need for it in the local area. It will be very useful for flying nav legs outside the local area and at unfamiliar airports. I still brought paper pubs but it could easily replace them and … (I want to throw a WSO joke in here but I’m only one bottle of wine deep at this point).
