That's UIA. They're servicing their airplanes so poor that something like this was inevitable. And the choice of the place and time is just plain bad luck I think...

There's about a dozen of them in pictures escorting the Russian Knights over Iran on their way to the Dubai air show around 2012ish. So I'd say they probably have a few flying. CENTCOM intel nerds lost their minds.
That was 8 years ago. Open source assessments I've seen over the years suggest they probably lack the A/A weapons that would be necessary to put their F-14s into a fight, assuming more than a handful are even airworthy. Frankly, with some vintage AWG-9, Sparrows and Winders from the 70s, they would be outmatched easily by modern 4th/5th Gen fighters. Their Fulcrums would be a much better option.

I probably shouldn't be writing this here, but I know I can trust you guys to keep a super-top-secret. Captain Pete Mitchell and an elite band of naval aviators are set to steal the last functioning F-14 from Iran here in about six months. Oddly enough, I saw some clowns with unusually large rubber dildos at the JSOC Compound DFAC the other day...not sure what's going on there.

Keep all of this close hold.

This is all just part of Paramount’s bigger plan for building up excitement for Top Gun 2’s release.

... and deliver it to Russia for copying (as the brand-new technology G6+), and en route we all will see that Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and Ethan Hunt is actually same person:D

Nice fireworks show by Iran..

It was a good option for the Iranians to save face. It provides an excellent opportunity for de-escalation and a return to the status quo. Iran's bark is worse than their bite and they can't afford to overplay their hand and reveal that the man behind the curtain is not the formidable Wizard of Oz.

That being said, a de-escalation at this stage won't be long lived. Even the most milquetoast countries are in agreement that Iran can't be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and refuse to live with that threat constantly being held over their head.

Sabotage operations have only kicked the can down the road. Deals and negotiations can and always will be broken. Appeasement never works. Open confrontation will be required to prevent the line in the sand from being crossed.

And then the clowns will ride.

You talking about the NORKs or the Mullahs? What if the Mullahs write us a beautiful letter?

DPRK is much more of a constrained actor than Iran. DPRK has already demonstrated that they have achieved nuclear status so the focus is containment rather than prevention.

CinC on the tube right now... looks like he's good with deescalation, using the opportunity to try to build consensus/engagement with rest of intl community, which is the correct move I think, although an uphill climb obviously.
