It ain't just the F-22, we had some problems with our Prowlers after enduring the monsoons that Guam calls rain. That included such fun as flooding our hangar with 2 inches of standing water. Most of the problems were similar, mostly electrical in nature.

The moisture there also caused the B-2 crash, it was apparently 'unofficial SOP ' to turn on the pitot heat to dry the system out but the mishap crew did not do that and the plane took over on takeoff because it thought it was a different speed than it actually was.

The joys of flying in the tropics.

Speaking of all things "Chamorro"...
for you CC studs, hopefully it's still the same, but the best breakfast burrito was made by these women by the gas station outside the Oso gate right before the causeway before you go into base. Believe that.

It seems weird that planes based in Alaska would be regularly deployed to Guam. Why not just make it permanent at Guam? Seems like a lot of wear and tear on planes and people...?

It seems weird that planes based in Hawaii and Whidbey would be regularly deployed to Misawa/Kadena/AUAB/etc. Why not just make it permanent at Misawa/Kadena/AUAB/etc. Seems like a lot of wear and tear on planes and people. :D

All kine' local issue, Bruddah ... $$$$$ ... and another example of 'local' issues w/ respect to GUM:

Peace & Justice for Guam -- The Guam Military Buildup

Jobs in Guam: a lawmaker's long reach ...

Neil Abercrombie - Wiki

... by U.S. Rep Neil Abercrombie, D-HA ...

Bottom line: he's indebted to his local base, the HNL trade unions ... and he wants to stop GUM development for the military until and unless he can channel some of the development $$$$$ ... i.e., an additional $10 BILLION to the U.S. taxpayer ... as a quid-pro-quo for the unions' previous support (and future support???) to grease the skids for his run for Hawaii Governator ... :)

It's ALWAYS about power & money, isn't it ... ??? :)

I love Hawai'i ...

Thats crazy talk- then we wouldn't have our beloved, readiness driven and weekend flying, IDRC that we use to justify our community funding... How would we prove that we are ready to deploy if we are permanently forward deployed???

Besides... we'd lose all that per diem. :icon_wink

No! The answer CAN'T be that there is local politics involved! The reason HAS to be that the USAF is a bunch of weenies!
