I don't give a shit about 'the optics' (and quite frankly this is on my top 5 list of things that needs to be eliminated from mil officer vocabulary - decisions are right or wrong regardless of what someone influential to your career might think of it). This isn't an officer trying to brown nose for a high water fitrep. Fact is that he doesn't have sole arbitration over what the FDA approves or rejects, so this is a nothingburger.
For not giving a shit, it sure looks like I hit a soft spot.

And optics do matter! Doesn’t mean they mean anything but especially politically they matter. And at this point everything Covid is political!

Optics only matter for weak leaders.

So you think that the Pfizer vaccine was FDA approved because they have a big purse? Do you think the FDA operates like this under all products it endorses, or only Pfizer for this one time? Do you have any concrete evidence that the FDA short-circuited its normal approval process for a vaccine? Do you think Pfizer has resources that Moderna and J&J don't?

Do you have similar disagreements with the other myriad of vaccines you are required to take to be eligible for military service? What about the ones our kids have to take to even go to school? Do you spend hours researching the bowels of the internet to find the ~0.001% of complications that occur and vocally complain about them on social media?

Can we skip all of these rhetorical questions and get to the part where I call you retarded?
Let's not bs each other here. In the end it doesn't matter what I think. Considering how Pfizer had the highest revenue of all 3 pharmaceutical companies in 2020, possibly. Again, look at the bigger picture or don't. Why would two top officials for the FDA for reviewing vaccines up and announce their retirements last week?

Honestly I have no issues with vaccines in general. 15 years ago I could have cared less what I got injected with but times change and so do people. In the end you can say whatever you want. If you're that hurt, I'll be the shoulder you can lean on. It's okay to keep crying, just let it go...

What are you talking about? This discourse was about if there is a legal difference to the FDA. What research needs to be done for that besides reading their document where they say the two are legally different.
So your own personal stance is:
-Defer the Pfizer because (insert whatever reason you have, I don’t care)
-Take Comirnaty, even though it’s literally the exact same thing going in your body.
-If a vial with a Comirnaty does not become available in the next 90 days, stick it to the man with your clever legal trick (although probably just get adseped)
Seems like a really pathetic hill to die on, but whatever.

And at this point everything Covid is political!
It really truly is. The vaccine could 100% save your life if you have comorbidity. The vaccine can also maybe create complications with preexisting conditions, and/or generate unwanted long term effects on its own. Nobody is able to square that circle bc this dang population in America doesn’t do nuance anymore. It’s so superficial. Everything is a damn “side” at worst, or a sound byte at best. If teachers unions or school boards or liberals in Congress are crying about this issue, they should and could have done a better job collectively teaching America’s students a rigorous STEM education and critical thinking skills for the past 2 decades. Rigorous being the operative term.

So, I have been substitute teaching in a HS...
Those are good numbers. At the school where the two teachers pass away they had a 26% positivity rate in their testing of the school population, which was insanely high.

My SIL teaches in Tennessee. They just had an elementary school teacher at her school pass from Covid last week. I assume unvaxxed (and also heavy, frankly).

Inbound!

So again, folks would rather get "natural" immunity from the gain of function'd viral outflow of a Chinese bio lab, than get vaccinated with something specifically designed to fight the Wuhan Flu? Because it is a more natural and better immunity? Safer than any of the vaccines? No long term side effects?

Anyone have a link to BUMED Memo 6300, Interchangeability of food and drug administration-approved Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine Comirnaty and Food and DrugAdministration-authorized Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine under emergency use authorization

You’re just figuring that out now?
Mostly I just put the facts, to counter some nonsense about Australia. I saw the 'going around in circles' but it didn't hit home. Till I tried to engage a couple of times. This was just the latest reinforcement of it being a waste of time.

The key difference is if you get the vax you're guaranteed to risk long term side effects. If you don't, then you stand a very good chance of avoiding that altogether. Not to mention, nature has pumped out many hundreds of viruses the average person has survived without long term effects. I got the vax, but I certainly am not excited to be among the first humans to try out an mRNA vaccine and hope the scientists didn't do what they so often do and think they're a lot smarter than they are.

Well, if you don't get the vax, you are guaranteed to risk long Covid, with that risk being...

P(you get Covid) x P(you get long Covid | you got Covid).

I'd say that risk is literally orders of magnitude greater than the risk of something long-term from the Vax, based on the data. Both the vax and Covid have been floating around almost as long as each other, yet no long term vax effects I know of. Long Covid, however, is a very real thing. But it's your dice, of course. I get it.

Why didn't you get the J&J?

You risk long covid whether you get the vax or not.

I didn't get J&J because it wasn't even offered when I decided to get a vax. It's not super safe.

And I'm sure long covid is a thing, don't get me wrong, but so is hypochondria, and with the fear porn pumping at 11 I'm betting more than a few people's brains are doing them dirty.
