COVID-19

My point is that you don't have to kill people for the virus to disrupt life. We've only killed off 40-50 meatpacking plant employees.

We didn't shut down because a few places got sick. We shut down so the country wouldn't get sick. The red areas are proof of a failure of leadership. Unnecessary dead and unnecessary economic impact.

South Korea is a much more densely populated country than we are. They've had about 300 dead. We will soon have 100,000 dead. That's not all cultural difference.

As a non-controversial OBTW, we are currently testing metallic copper spray paint to verify the copper makes it anti-viral. Cool way to treat surfaces if true.

Buy your cans now.

What? No. No, we shut down to prevent the hospitals from getting swamped. We shut down to flatten the curve and prevent everyone from getting sick now and, instead, drag it out over time to protect the aforementioned hospitals. And now it has become a fucking political issue. But no lunatic on either side of the aisle ever promised that the country wouldn't get sick. This is mission creep on steroids.

We're the richest country on the planet by far, with 4% of the population but 30% of the Covid deaths. That's failure on steroids.

None of the meatpacking plants are on that plot, and yet we have shortages and rationing while farmers and ranchers are having to destroy their livestock.
No shortage of beef or chicken at the stores I go to, they have a 3 lb limit on any item and a 3 item limit, however they tell you if you need more to buy what you have then put it in your car and run back in to get more, right now there are some pretty good sales going on for chicken and beef. I don't eat much pork so can't speak to that.

Joe Rogan has an interesting take on all this government spending related to coronavirus. He thinks that - because obesity and vitamin D deficiency are both highly correlated (maybe causal, maybe not) with coronavirus symptoms and recovery - the federal government should spend a tiny amount of all this money on a web portal to give people access to information on how to eat clean, get exercise and mobility, and get vitamin D. He also says that, given we've seen an uptick in suicide, depression, and domestic violence, not a bad idea to also consider adding some portal resources on how to meditate to reduce stress and anxiety. Meanwhile, the federal government is spending a certain amount of money on riot control gear.

Yup, them Dem governors like Cuomo have been failing miserably. 4400+ nursing home deaths while thousands of hospitals beds provided by Trump went unused. Not to mention the 14,500 ventilators Cuomo demanded above the 3500 he actually used. Good thing Trump called bullshit or else the rest of the country including those other NE red states would not have had any.

Red state governors killing people and continuing to crash the economy by maintain unnecessary lock downs are failures in steroids too.

You need to seriously re-evaluate how you approach data science. Do you think someplace like Mexico has the funding and resources to test the same as we do? Do you think the Russians are reporting their numbers accurately? How can you have any confidence in any data when 1/3 of the test results are false-postives/false-negatives?

You would NEVER EVER compare our numbers to another country if even ONE of the things I just mentioned was true.

The data is complete trash. Of course we're going to show more deaths from Covid than Mexico is. Because we're testing more.

Most of the walmart floor plans are laid out so you have to go past the fresh vegetables section on your way to the junk food aisles. Instead of yet another web portal, what about just modifying all those hoverounds so that when they get to that part of the store, they automatically turn left instead of going straight?

(It hurts because it's true.)

In addition, I think there are also some perverse incentives at work, which may or may not inflate US death data. Medicare reimburses hospital for coronavirus related deaths, pneumonia deaths, and deaths that required ventilator use.
