His wiki has an entire area dedicated to his "aviation knowledge"..I wonder what his ratings are? It says he started instrument but doesn't say if he finished. Still, not qualified enough in my opinion to be the resident expert in such a big news agency.

Miles Matthew O'Brien III is a airplane single engine land private pilot with an instrument rating. The FAA database is REALLY easy to search.

They couldn't get anyone more qualified? quality, CNN.

It's not the exception, more the rule. When you see coverage on a subject that you are involved in, notice how often that they get basic things wrong. Aviation is a perfect example, if you watch enough reports concerning an incident you'll find out that what gets on TV or in print is not always the most accurate information.
