I have some (MANY) questions about BDCP:

1. I understand that I must be a college student in order to qualify, but when I apply do I need to include my HS transcripts? Reason I'm asking is because I graduated from a correspondence program (PearBlossom Private School) and now I'm in a university (UNLV).

2. What are the main things a selection board looks at?

3. How long (generally) does it take to find out whether or not I'll be selected for BDCP?

4. When is the best time to apply for BDCP?

5. Can anyone here tell me if my stats are all right so I can start applying?

UNLV freshman, Electrical Engineering major, 3.6 GPA, involved in extracurricular activities and volunteer work.

Sorry for all the questions, folks. I'd appreciate any feedback.

I'll answer your questions if I can crash at your place when I come to vegas...heh, just kidding. I didn't do BDCP, but from what I know, you want to apply as early as possible, by the rate you're going with that superstar GPA you should be able to apply at the end of your sophomore year. Applying as early as possible will let you wrap up a spot 2 fiscal years in advance. You won't need HS transcripts, but they do ask you for your SAT scores. Oh yeah, when you see a recruiter, make sure you tell him/her you're interested in aviation, because if they here what your credentials are, they'll probably try to sell you on nuke.

I've been 3 times...twice in the last 4 months because I'm stationed in San Diego now. :icon_mi_1

I'd trade places with you anytime. I'd much rather be in San Diego. Y'all have an ocean...and well, Vegas doesn't. Vegas is fun, if you're 21. Three more years...

What's your fave casino?

Oops...looks like you can apply earlier than I thought. Since you have a technical degree you can max out BDCP at 36 months.

Fave casino? I like the NY-NY because it's right next to ESPNZone, I was there for OSU-Michigan in November and these nut jobs were lined up before it was open. Other than that, I'd have to go with the Aladdin, because that's the only place I've actually won. ;)

1. I don't recall needing my HS transcripts or SAT/ACT scores.

2. GPA, ASTB are the biggies, but they look at everything.

3. It took me about 2 months to get recommended and an additional 6 weeks or so to get the final selection letter.

4. If you are eligible now, apply NOW. Applicants who are seeking technical degrees in college can be in BDCP for up to 3 years. Non-techs for 2 years. Your degree is technical is you have taken the right amount of calculus and calculus based physics. Do a search on the forum to be sure.

5. Sounds good. Elec. engineer sounds technical to me, so I would start the application process ASAP. Call an officer recruiter to get some more info. Also, get the ASTB practice test from this website and make sure you know all of the topics that are covered. The real ASTB is very similar to the practice.

I'm going to post a thread on this topic in the "Reference" section. Hopefully I'll have time to get it done this weekend. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask any more questions.

Yes. I am a Pirate.
Thanks for the tips Ben! I have a question, even though I have searched the forums and I have not been able to find a answer.

When they look at your GPA do they give more precedence to the cumulative GPA or your degree specific GPA? I am a sophomore with a 2.1 (cum) (yeah I d**ked around with the classes that didn't matter to my majors), but I have in 3.0 my history major and a 3.5 in my physics major. I would hope that they would give more precedence to the GPA in your major, or majors, especially if it is a technical major.

Thanks!

Hard to say... you're getting into questions that probably only the actual people on the selection board can answer accurately. I think your best bet for some solid info on this one is to talk to an Officer Recruiter. I could speculate, but all it would be is a guess. The 2.1 won't look too hot and it will probably take some super high ASTB scores to offset - even with the higher GPA's in your majors. Again, your best bet is a recruiter. Feel free to shoot any more questions my way. BEN
