Just tripped on this tonight and reviewing the banter, I'd say you don't want to show up late, even a day, and risk standing out (someone said "skyline" yourself) especially with your excuse as it is. If you spring the "honors" bit on them, you'll likely be "smart guy" for 6 WEEKS! The training is rigorous enough without being one of the "favorites". The training "cadre" will look for anything to use against you as part of the training package (as u.s.av8r says correctly "you get used to the pain").
Now if you want to leave early...you might have a shot as there are extra days built in, but don't ask for extra attention going in. Work with your school of slide to next increment.
