April 2010 Boards

I partied in college like most kids my frosh-soph years, grew up my last three years, and have a drink every now and then like most 24 year olds. Long story short, the MEPS psych consult said I'm an "alcohol abuser in partial remission". It should get worked out though; the Senior Medical Officer in Tennessee gave my OR a short list of things I need to do to clearly show I don't have a drinking problem so I can get cleared. I think I have really lucked out; my OR is an awesome guy and has put in a ton of effort so far in my application process and has had my back 100 percent.

Moral of the story: if you REALLY want this, prepare to jump through a LOT of hoops (even artificial ones).

25/m
SNA
2.8 GPA in communications and political science from Western Michigan University

Furloughed airline pilot- 1600 hours

We'll see what happens I guess. Looks like there are some very highly qualified people on this board.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to this, decided to go for SNA about 1.5 months ago. I took the ASTB about a week and a half ago and I'm doing my best to get all required documents in for April boards. Here's the down and dirty

22 year old male
University of Georgia
Environmental Engineering
3.0/4.0
ASTB: 8/8/9 68

LORs: 1) old school seaman/air traffic controller from Korean War times, long time neighbor
2) Army JAG officer, not sure what level, O-4 maybe?
3) National Guard Pilot, 20+ year pilot for Delta
4) A sweet little old lady I've worked four years for
5) O-6 career pilot for Navy

I've always done sports, tons of community service stuff and leadership stuff in high school (captains of school organizations like student ambassadors), a little less in college. One slipup freshman year where I got in trouble for underage drinking and fake i.d.

I wish everyone the best of luck and hope that we all hear good news a month from now. I have a few questions for some of you.
1.) What's this with the interviews with Navy officers? How can I get one because it sounds like that would be a good endorsement.
2.) I don't have my physical fitness numbers done yet, my recruiter said that can wait until after I get pro reced (or not, God forbid). Is he right in this?

My bad, I guess I'm up for May boards if my stuff is in by April 15th. Good luck anyways, don't take up all the free slots though. One more question too, should I apply for SNA and SNFO? I've heard people say to just do pilot if you don't want to get "stuck" with SNFO. But I also heard you can get over to SNA during API if you're absolutely stellar in your class. Any recommendations?

1. Looking at your current package I wouldn't worry about an interview. If you want one you could talk to your OR to see if they can get one arranged for you but these are truly not a big deal unless you are currently active duty enlisted.

2. Yes he is right because it is truly up to him.

Hey Man
If you don't already have your application totally in then you are trying for the May boards. The April boards cut off was 26 MAR. So you might want to forward your post to the May 2010 boards thread.
I dont think you can get an officer interview for SNA. My OR told me that the PRT was part of the application but it seems like a lot of guys wait till after pro-rec. I've already gone through medical and been cleared too, but some have to wait till after pro-rec. Seems weird to me because those are things that postpone your final select date once you're pro-rec. Wouldnt you want that done asap? Perhaps if you ask your OR to have it done it can happen. Be determined but not forceful.

Best of luck to you and to all of us! My Fingers are crossed!

Does anyone know when the SNA/NFO boards are meeting? I saw it was the 15th on the Navy OCS forum, can anyone confirm?

Have you guys been told by your recruiters that your package is being reviewed for the April board? Or when does this happen usually?

nobody will know for sure who is being viewed until the 15th or so. For the most part, if you got it in on time, you will be seen. In some cases packages will get kicked back for some stuff, but that is really rare because of all the screening that is done prior to them being sent. Your best bet is to ask your recruiter and make sure that it went through without any issues.

Working full time as a Correctional Officer at a state prison and taking 18 credit hours per semester is taking a lot out of me. Hopefully working hard to support a family will be favorable in the boards eyes. I had asked my recruiter if I made the list for April and he confirmed. He said there were approx. 100 applicants for SNA in the April board. Good luck to everyone who posted. This is round two for me. September 2009 I was a Non-select.

OCS boards for SNA/SNFO/SWO normally occur on a Thursday or Friday on or before the 15 of each month. My OR told me that they would most likely have the boards by the end of this week or the Thursday of next week with results being submitted anywhere between a few days and a few weeks depending on the number of applicants. I'm hoping to hear good news before the 23rd so I don't have to go to drill this month :)
