I could be wrong, but I vaguely recall NavyOffRec talking about how he's never personally seen anyone with 5's get selected, and the breakdown of scores matters too

For instance, getting a 6 on the PFAR and 7 on a FOFAR has gotten people NFO but no SNA, and vice versa

The breakdown does matter, but if I recall correctly the fact that there are more SNA than SNFO slots means that it isn't quite a one-to-one mapping in terms of how much a certain PFAR or FOFAR score helps or hurts.

No respectable OR would mess with anyone, I and those OR's that I served with would strive to put out the most accurate information at the time, now data does change and that is just part of being in the military.

NavyOffRec, sorry about this comment. I wasn't speaking entirely seriously. I wouldn's assume any officer recruiter would ever give any information thet they knew to be contraty to a fact. I was just shedding comedic light on the discrepancy of info coming from different NRDs. Sorry again though, I wasn't generalizing.

100-40=60...:D
But there'll probably be more slots than that (for pilots at least), since some will drop out or need to redesignate.

Yeah, the goals must be for how many people they intend to ultimately add to the fleet, not the number of pro-recs given out, because otherwise there wouldn't be backlogs.

So I was just thinking about how every night this week is going to feel like Christmas, only we don't know if it will be Christmas tomorrow, and if we are going to get a nice present or a lump of coal. Then this happened.

Twas the night before boards met, and all through the house
not an applicant was stirring, not even reading gouge
They had studied hard for the ASTBs with care
In hopes that news from OCS would soon be there

The future officer candidates all snug in their beds
While visions of butterbars danced in their heads
And I, the OR, had just been for a long run,
And settled down to watch “Tora Tora Tora” or maybe “Top Gun”

When outside there arose a thud on the deck
I sprang from my rack and thought "what the heck?"
Away to the window I flew in a dash
Ran downstairs and tore open the hatch

The stars shone down on me in my nighttime-cover
and I saw a sight like no other
What to my glazed over eyes should appear
But a miniature F-18 hornet, and eight tiny reindeer

With a little old pilot, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment he must be at least an O-6!
More rapid than the turn of helo blades,
he shouted, and called the designators by name;

"Now, PILOTS! now, SWOs! now, Supply corps and NFOs!
On, INTEL! on NUKES! on, BUDS and staff dudes!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now PRO-RECs! PRO-RECs, PRO-RECs for all!"

LFCFan, That was Epic... An instant classic if I may say... We can "drink to the foam" on that one...

Just got back from deployment and I went the OCS route. I will try to be around more often...if any of you have any questions, shoot me an IM or whatever. I had a terrible GPA and still was able to get the opportunity to wear shiny Wings of Gold, I'm getting ready to trade in the P-3 for the P-8. If any of you have any questions about OCS, the pipeline..or the P-3 and P-8 in general, give me a shout. My P-8 knowledge is very limited as we are starting the syllabus in January.

Good luck! This site is an excellent resource and there are Naval Aviators/NFO's with many hours of flight time and a few old timers here who "wrote the book" lurking about the place.

I'm glad my act of dorkiness was not perceived as such.

The "not even reading gouge" was got it started once I realized that it felt like Christmas eve last night. All downhill from there. I had some more verses but they really didn't work, so I thought I'd leave it where it was.

You must have some serious down time.... I am brain dead after work.

I did that in like 20 minutes. I had a pretty light weekend. Normally I'm a tad fried after work and working out - no way that would have happened on a weeknight.

Even us "old guys" hope that means "until 2300"...assuming it started at a gentlemanly hour, of course. If it started at 0500...I guess it doesn't matter much...;)

1630-2300. Bar, dinner, and then a few beers at a friend/coworkers place.
