I don't think so: if one enjoys pain, he has bigger problems than attitude. I think the only reason to go through OCS, after all, is to be trained enough to be allowed to serve at the end.

Stoob... it was tongue in cheek. BTW, You start serving at swearing in.

My point is, in OCS you have to take it 'one day at a time', for if you dwell on "the end"... it will seem endless. OCS is training to transition you from civilian to military life, and as a prospective leader, to learn to follow orders, as you learn to lead and give them. Your training to learn your job and actually lead Sailors (OJT), will begin at your first duty station.:)

FS SNFO
Haven't received my FS letter yet but spoke to my OR and he said it was looking like February 17th. I have the option of switching to January 27th though due to another Pro-Rec SNFO attempting to push his OCS date back. Looks like I will be seeing y'all in Rhode Island!

I haven't received my letter either, but I have a set date with my OR to swear in and do my PT test on the 8th.
It's not finalized but I feel comfortable with this date.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone, and getting our training STARTED! Everyone is looking forward to it being over and receiving a commission, but OCS is more than a formality. It is going to change us as people, and we will either make the most of every part of the training, or we will fail. Just as BZB says, gotta take it one day at a time, and help each other through it. I don't personally enjoy pain, but I look forward to earning it the hard way.

Talked to my OR today, my FS letter has been generated but not signed yet. He told me there is a possibility that I might get pushed back to the 17 Feb. class but I sure hope not... I'm excited to get up to RI and start OCS.

Amen, and another plus I am sure few of you have considered: When you approach OCS with a positive attitude, play the game 'they' want, help each other out ("leave no strugglin' straggler behind"), & don't lose your sense of humor... You will succeed, & will end up with several LIFELONG friends as a bonus. Team/Sqdn/Ship/Classmates who succeed/survive through rough times together, tend to form positive and longlasting bonds.:)

OBTW, the above advice is just as relevant to actual "green ink" operations, as it is to OCS (and most other endevours), been thar... dun that!

You're right, that's a better way of looking at the service.

One day at a time is one way to live...when I leave OCS, I'll opine on method.

My orders probably won't be cut until after the holidays, but I was told 27 January. 28 y.o., Phoenix native, 6 years prior Coast Guard aircrew with 711 flight hours on helos + fixed wing, pro-rec'd SWO, 3.95 GPA in History, recs from CG 0-4, 0-5, 0-8 for those still keeping track. I live about 40 minutes from Newport in Southeastern MA...have spent a lot of time in Newport: great city and of course I will definitely be driving. Ready to answer any questions about the area and looking forward to meeting everyone! I feel good about my prep but still hurting a little in my running- but only have upward to go.

I received my PR as well (SNFO), waiting on FS and boot camp dates, but I was told it was probably this or the February class. I'm 26, ET3 serving in Niscemi, Sicily, 3 years in the Navy in March, communications specialist and program manager for HF Global Broadcast System where I work. Not looking to the month-long jet lag I have coming up, but I'm ready to roll.

Sociology/Criminal Justice degree with a minor in French from the University of Tennessee. I don't know any of the gouge for OCS yet, but if anyone has any basic Navy questions, message me on here or on facebook and I'll be glad to help as much as possible.
