Serious trouble at af acad. H1n1

I would like to know if they are not mandatory as well. I don't want to take them. It sounds like there is going to be a mandatory swine flu vaccine coming this fall. The government has already ordered almost 200 million doses. I don't want anything to do with it. Especially after hearing...

If you got any questions, I graduated from Vance about a year ago. I'm not the most recent person here out of Vance, but I would be more than happy to answer any questions you got. Feel free to PM me.

    Over my head in debt...

You need to seriously check out the Dave Ramsey program and get enrolled in one of the classes in your area. He has a solid program that helps people get out of debt and then continue to live debt free. I took it and it changed my life. Debt is dumb, don't buy the lie. PM if you need any...

I just got the call, Kingsville is getting all its jets out. Looks like I'm going on the road for RI's sooner than I thought.

    Vance for Primary??

IMO the T-6's brakes sucked. But since the AF has long runway's at its training bases, not having beta really isn't that big of a deal for them. If I remember correctly we had a 7,000ft runway at Vance, which was plenty. The AF does not do split-field ops either. Does anyone know if the T-6B...

    T-6 EPs

Hehe...yeah, that wasn't where I was going with my previous post. I was just trying to discuss the difference between the AF and Navy method of EP training. I don't think either program is superior to the other. Both are great for their own purposes and a lot can be learned from both. You...

    T-6 EPs

The AF's method of memorizing the boldface is very lame. There was a lot of time wasted writing boldface/ops limits over and over and over again because of misspelled words or punctuation. However the Air Force spends A LOT of time talking about and training for emergency situations, and I...

    Things to do in Vance

My opinion is that Kingsville is worse than Enid. But I am from the midwest, so maybe I'm biased. Kingsville is a smaller town than Enid and it seems there is less to do here and less places to eat. The only thing I like about Kingsville is that Corpus is pretty close. But with gas as high...

    Things to do in Vance

It's called "We Too". Great place to get breakfast. Has anyone ever been to Costello's? My wife and I ate there everyonce in awhile. It was actually pretty fine dining for Enid, Oklahoma. If you like shooting, you should go check out Mr. Quier's shooting range in North Enid, and prepare...

    Depth perception mega thread

How did you do the test? Did you put your head in the thing and try to focus? That's what I did on the test when I was going through MEPS when I enlisted and failed it miserably. The guy told me I would never be a pilot with my depth perception. Before I applied to the Marine Corps for a...

THIS WAS MY EXPERIENCE AT VANCE, SHARE YOURS. 21 May 2008

Thank you! I can't tell you how many people I have to explain this to. So many people make a big issue of the T-6 having a "glass" cockpit. Just because your steam gauges are presented to you digitally on glass displays does not make it a "glass" cockpit, by it's original definition. It...

THIS WAS MY EXPERIENCE AT VANCE, SHARE YOURS. 21 May 2008

I'm obviously not an IP, and don't know what MPTS is. However, it might be worth noting that an unsat (down) in the Navy is a totally different ballgame than an unsat (hook) in the AF. In the AF, you don't want to hook a checkride (only because you have to re-do it), but hooking a daily ride...

    VANCE decision for a Marine

There is two Primary squadrons there. The 8th and the 33rd. When I was there, the CO of the 33rd was a Navy CDR and the XO of the 8th was also a Navy CDR. On the Marine side, we had a senior Marine and I believe 3 other Marine IP's with a couple more coming through the pipeline soon. I can't...

    VANCE decision for a Marine

That's exactly how I see it, couldn't have said it better myself Sir. And it really isn't that difficult of a transition. I think you can pick up really quickly what the Navy/MC do better and what they expect of you.

    VANCE decision for a Marine

Having gone through Vance recently, I can say that there definitely were annoying aspects of the AF, but it's not nearly as bad as most people depict it. I'm not having any problems transitioning back to Navy training, neither is anybody else here that I know of that went to Vance. It's all...

    VANCE decision for a Marine

What's really funny is the AF guys coming back to Vance (or other AF training base) after finishing primary in the Navy. They are known to have difficulty adjusting to the AF way. CaptainRon, P.M. me with questions if you want. I just finished Vance in Feb.

How long does it take to Recover from PRK?

It seems to me that people have different experiences with PRK. I really did not have that much pain. My doc told me it would hurt and gave me a prescription for pain meds and I was expecting it to be miserable. I only remember feeling like I had sand or grit in my eyes for 2 or 3 days after...

How long does it take to Recover from PRK?

I have never heard anywhere that lasik has better results than PRK. My doctor did both and had no bias for one or the other and said they have the same results. He told me the reason lasik is more popular is because there is almost no recovery time, verses PRK taking a couple of months to...

    TAD while in Pensacola

If you really want TAD, you will get it, just keep hounding the CO of the MOC about it. He has a lot of jobs to fill lieutenants with, but if you really want to go, he will grant it. I got PTAD with my OSO, but after asking atleast twice. There are somewhere from 5-7 units requesting...

How long does it take to Recover from PRK?

Ask your OSO, he will know for sure. I did PRK 2 years ago and I had to wait 3 months I think before they could start working me, maybe it was 6, I can't remember for sure. Everybody is different, but I was 20/15 within a month and a half, but they say it takes the average person about 6...

    ARGGHH! Going to Vance

    ARGGHH! Going to Vance

I don't see why this would piss anyone here off. I understand why the Air Force wants their students to stay in the dorms, but I'm not in the Air Force. I did that part of my training and more at TBS. I don't want to be in there, and if I can do anything to avoid it, without crossing the...

    ARGGHH! Going to Vance

I hope that is true, but our CO running the MOC just visited there and said that the Navy is trying to cooperate or help the air force in this area. He said if their barracks are less than 90% filled when we get there, it is possible we will have to live in them. I hope he's wrong.
  36. danthaman

    ARGGHH! Going to Vance

So now we're being told we might have to live in the dorms in Vance so the air force can meet their quotas of having their barracks filled to 90%. This seriously pisses me off.

I just found out today I'm going to Vance. It is not exactly what I was hoping for. Is there anyone that recently went there, or that is going there now that can tell me it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, or should I slit my wrists now? I am kind of excited about flying the T-6...

FedEx arrivals into Memphis... during a thunderstorm

I've been on two tours of the Memphis hub, it's pretty crazy. Even though Fedex has day flights, they primarily fly at night. between 2300 and 0400 they have flights coming in one after the other on every available runway. I think they call it the congo line.

    Questions abotu PRK

I was undeployable for 3 months after I had PRK done because of the medication I was on (steroids). So that might give you some issues there with a deployment to Iraq in Aug. But seriously, why shell out all that cash if your vision is already 20/30?
