Affirm, sir...my P71 (first pic) has all the cop stuff that you mentioned from The Blues Brothers...just like the P71s I drove on patrol (second pic)...and the cigarette lighter has always worked.

I have had the opportunity a few times. I get word it is someone's anniversary or birthday, I'll mention it. If I know some family is going to Disneyland, I'll make sure they look for it when we come into SNA. I do sometimes make announcements standing at the front of the cabin if we are delayed, especially for maintenance. I have never made an announcement at the gate. Haven't really had a situation where it made sense. By and large the reaction is as observed in the article. People just trust the word of the Captain more than the gate agent, and they like to see the face behind the voice. It is actually unfair because, at least at my airline, the agents are pretty darn good at getting the best info to the paxs. They do not lie, regardless of what some of the public think.

I don't know...after seeing the first episode of the new TV show "LA to Vegas" I can't help but think of @HAL Pilot and @mad dog in the cockpit as some kind of "GO TO THE SHOW" comedy routine....
