Anybody know of some good white crew socks to buy for the pt stuff? I dropped some loot on good boot socks and would rather not spend $16 a pair on some crew socks...

I got mine for OCS at KOHLs dept store on the cheap. If you have one of those near you then try to hit that up.

PT if you can, eat, free time, lunch, free time, dinner, free time, sleep. This might sound outwardly awesome, but H is not a place you want to be. Every day you're in your class is one day closer to getting your butter bars. Every day in H is purgatory. If you're legit sick/hurt, by all means get taken care of, but avoid H to the maximum extent possible.

Don't forget getting put on your face randomly by whatever DI doesn't have a class at the moment. The "free" DI's LOVE to spend time with H class, and they seem to take it personally when people end up there...

For the dude asking about socks... GET GOOD SOCKS like LT Dan says. Jockey GO Mesh Crew are the sh*t. I wore the crappy standard issue socks for exactly one day at OCS. They suck balls in the boots as well as PT.

I wore some white Gold Toe crew socks...

Guidelines on the socks are that they can't have any sort of visible logo or stripes, i.e., plain white visible above your running shoes. Obviouly Gold Toes were ok.

I don't want to nuke the issue, but have any of you ocs vets seen classmates wearing minimalist running shoes? I just started running in the New Balance minimus, and don't want to go back to regular running shoes. But i've heard that the proportion of standing/marching around far outweighs the running, so it would make sense to get well cushioned shoes. Thoughts?

Has anyone anywhere managed to save a copy of that feature that Providence Journal did on OCS back in 2008? All of the links I've seen simply redirect to the home page, and it looks like it has been taken down. The writing is interesting, at least what I've been able to get off of forums. Anyone have a link?

As far as the minimalist running shoes - the Navy approved them for official PT use when my class was there, so first they were taken away, then given back again. Some DI's/RDC's don't like them because they don't trust the candidates to know what they are doing and if you aren't smart about running in those shoes, you will seriously jack up your legs.

At this point I believe its your decision whether or not to wear them, but consider this - only your sprint interval and PFA runs will be conducted on "softer" ground (the track) vs every other run on pavement, Nimitz linoleum, or the gym hardwood. Depending on how much experience you have, running minimalist on those surfaces could injure you. I run minimalist 1-2 days a week on sand/grass and it destroys my calves every time - for me the decision was clear, I wasn't going med-down for a leg injury because I chose to be special and wear minimalist shoes. Ultimately, its up to you.

So as far as uniforms: I'm scheduled to graduate July 6th. I am assuming that we will be wearing whites on the Friday for graduation. I have heard that there are other events for family that will happen on Wednesday and Thursday also (especially considering that Wednesday would be July 4th). Can anyone enlighten me on what we will be wearing on those days? Khakis, whites?

You will be in khakis until you graduate and then you'll be in whites during the graduation. No sooner, with the exception of liberty. You can wear whites/sdbs out on liberty, but you will have the midshipman insignia on while out. You'll be briefed on this well before that date comes. Get to and then through OCS first and then worry about this.

Trust me...this is the last thing on my mind. It was a question direct from the wife! Thanks for the info
