Pre- 2007 the sti and wrx in general were sick. I have had a few trucks 97 silverado and a 2000 f250 diesel. loved the diesel and draggin my buddies out of the mud. However, pain around a town and I remember a tank of gas costing well over a hundred bucks. I have a G35 now, I love it and it's 40 dollar tanks of gas. However, I know a truck will be in my future again.

Also, seeing that your BDCP wouldn't it be a long time before we saw any DITY? Buddy in Lemoore said you couldn't pick it up until you moved to out of the VT's. Correct me if i am wrong, thats a question I had been wanting to ask.

First PCS would be OCS to Pensacola for API.

Subaru all the way. My wife owns a Forester and I own a new WRX. Plenty of room for people and gear, AWD, great handling and performance. I've owned trucks before and the occasional benefits never outweigh the mileage, crappy handling and size.

BTW the new WRX's have beefed up trannies.

And the entire middle east stood up to applaud this photo :) :

Hey, the Avalanche gets 18mpg on the highway (used to get 20 before I moved to VA and got stuck with crappy E10 gas) and the Corvette gets 20mpg (Quadrajet and overdrive). Looking at an LS swap for the Corvette so I should be able to get 25+. :)

I may get some heat for this. I glanced through the other posts and didn't see it mentioned, but I like the Honda Element. Yeah it looks like an ice cream van, but it's super functional inside and you can fit a ton of stuff in it. And, you can wash out the interior with a hose if you so desire. Again, not the most attractive thing on 4 wheels, but it's not crazy expensive and is versatile.

If I could drive anything on the road right now I'd be in the 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R. Not the biggest truck out there, but it's looking nice.

Subaru is a great pick. My family has a Forester, which I've had to drive a lot. Normally I hate driving SUVs, but the Forester is really comfortable, it gets great mileage, and you can fit tons of crap/people in it. I may get rid of my Accord before OCS and get one of my own.

Heat rolling in: Seriously? An element? Man card: Revoked. You know what else you can fit a ton of stuff inside? A purse, but you don't carry one of those around too, do ya?

If you want something you can hose out, get an FJ cruiser. 4WD, can actually tow something, decent mileage, and it doesn't look like an elephant turd on wheels.

....for the same price, and has an optional rear locker.

But how long before THEY get the recall.....corollas got it for steering yesterday.

Is it odd that the US govt owns GM and Chrysler (more or less) and Toyota can't catch a break? I'm not saying...i'm just saying...

US cars are garbage. We can build trucks, for the most part, but as far as buying something reliable that gets you there and back, go Japanese. Want something with some flash and handling? Buy German. Want something to sit in on the side of the road cursing your purchases while contemplating life? Buy a dodge or a GM.

I cannot believe the choice of cars here... STI? Are you kidding me? THE UGLIEST THING EVER. Looks like a mini van, with the same sized engine, that is just turboed, which right there is asking for trouble. You cant try and make a small engine, as powerful as a big engine (v-8) get a naturally aspirated v-8 that pushes horse!

Only one vote on the vette? Really?

Follow these guidelines...
1) AMERICAN ONLY, support the US economy, dont give other countries more money, especially asian countries, they already own most of our debt!
2) Something not suitable for a woman...
3) RWD, no AWD junk
4) V-8

I will say go for a USED CORVETTE ANY day of the week.

I have a C5 (older generation) Z06, with plenty of horsepower, and with my long tube headers, exhasut, etc, it sounds as manly as any car EVER will, and is the best purchase I could have made. I bought it about 6 years ago, for 28k put 65k miles on it, and can sell it today for about 21k... So they hold their value better than any import, like a BMW which you buy a 2008 M5 for 110k, and they are going now for 40K 2 years later with 25 k miles...

German cars, are very expensive to repair

imports, you are paying extra for the "import"

Do not get a 4 cylinder, so I get a head ache whenever the lawnmowers hit 4000+ rpms

Get a TRUCK OR NICE CAR, with MUSCLE, V-8 / hemi etc

All this talk about MPG, my vette pushes 475 RWHP and I get 34 avg MPG highway as long as I am in low RPMs in 6th gear, going about 75-80 mph

Reliability? American cars are MORE reliable and cheaper to fix than imported cars. I have NEVER had a problem with my vette, and I drive it into the ground every time I get into it. I have about 70K miles, I have put 65k miles on it, and never had a major issue.

A little older now, but a used C6 (new generation corvette) is the way to go!!!

I am surprised that no-one has mentioned the simplest solution.....one of each.

Corvette16.jpg

Both are paid off. I have had the Corvette for 17 years ( and spent a lot over the years) and a year tax free in Iraq helped pay of the Avalanche.

Awsome C3 Stringray convertible. Looks like a 69' 327, 5.36 L ?

Thats a ride!

I will caveat my previous statement with anything that ends in Vette is not a bad choice. I feel like the new dodges are a poor substitute/homage for the MOPAR glory days of Cudas, Challengers, and Chargers (who the f*** put 4 doors on the new charger?) and GM killed Pontiac right when they were starting to make good cars again... probably because they were really just Opels and Holden knock offs with a Pontiac badge.
