If he is insane, does he still get the virgins?

The joke is on them, the actual translation is raisins - 70 fucking raisins, not 70 fucking virgins. Apparently in 6th century Arabia, raisins were in higher demand than virgins. :D

Thanks, Robin Williams. ;)

And on another note, wouldn't shed a tear if they botched it a la "The Green Mile" 'lectric chair scene.

So you've read about Christoph Luxenberg's interpretation as well? Awesome stuff. I wouldn't go so far as to say "the actual translation is..." but, f*ck, it's useful stuff in the war on terrorism!:D I'm hopeful that in the coming decades, text criticism becomes more common for the Qur'an, as it already has with the Bible; maybe there will be some positive outcomes from that, but then again, the inevitable reaction to the new trend will also lead to more radicalism. Things will get worse before they get better.

In all seriousness... reading some of the translations in the "King James Bible" and comparing it to the original Hebrew.... wouldn't be surprised with a LOT of English translations of MANY original texts being completely inaccurate.
