What is another word for theaurus?
I was attempting to explain someone else's use of the word. VERTREP is fun but when you boil it down it's just Helo 101 and any monkey can do it. It takes very little tactical skill to do the mission, but it does teach you to maneuver the aircraft and at the end of the day it does leave you feeling like you accomplished something because there's a tangible result.

Flying and controlling the aircraft is the most important thing to us in the back....

The swagger you speak of comes from knowing that you have completed your mission EVERY time you fly....and the fact that all eyes available are on you while you do the VERTREP dance. Every shoe wishes they were you is standing there watching...

Delivering pallets....yes...it's all in how you do it.

How many people come out to watch you in the Delta? I'm just saying...

It would be interesting to know what the [financial] numbers are for contract VERTREP.

It would make sense to me that a dedicated VERTREP det is not cost effective, but what about the "take care of yourself" mentality. This is where our Gator Det got all of it's VERTREP time: we handled most of the VERTREP for the group (when there were no Pumas embarked on the USNS).

I would imagine in most cases, when ships are working as a group, it would not be unreasonable to have the 60s handle the VERTREP for the whole group. You set aside a VERTREP day (or two) and that's when everyone gets resupplied. The carrier and the Gator of the future always have VERTREP capable 60s and crews that maintain their VERTREP currency.

This, of course, leaves out the independant steaming small boys with no embarked helo det, but then again, what's to prevent them from CONREPing their pallets?

Yep. They thought it up and sombody else runs with it. Kaman gets screwed again.

(I used to work for Kaman Aerospace in the late 80's in Jax. Company always treated me OK right up until they laid me off after getting screwed by Micky D's on the MD-80.)

When I checked into HC-8 in 2003, there were 2 -60's and 8 -46's. A LOT of the guys in that video taught me A LOT about helicopters.
When did you float with HC-8/HSC-28? I floated with those guys in 2003 and 2006...

I was on the Nassau in '05-'06 for all the work-ups, the Haiti relief mission, and the long cruise. I missed all the Katrina action because ole #4 was broke dick and single screw in the Atlantic.
