And here I thought it was all about the PRES's 'tint' being kinda 'green' in this particular photo -- between him & the canopy, its all 'green'.

Nice fucking job with the camera, Mass Communications Specialist 2nd Class !!! Let's hope you make 1st Class some fine day ... :)

If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid.

That was my initial thought too! Then I read the article, and found it almost as funny.

Let's cut the guy a break. This Green Hornet thing has been SECNAV's baby since he took office. So while I agree that the whole thing is a publicity stunt (I.E. we're never going to have significant quantities of biofuel in the Navy's operational fuel supply system), there's very little in politics that isn't, so let's not act as though this is some new phenomenon we should blame on democrats.

So let's review: The President wants to build a new generation of nuke power plants and drill for oil off our shores. Not exactly the calling cards of the hard left extremist you make him out to be.

Brett

I can guess, with nearly 100% certainty, that if this had been rolled out 15 months ago it would have been met with praise and comments like "watch how the Dems scramble to turn this against the POTUS" by the same folks who are calling foul on it now.

And designing a gas turbine to burn some alternative fuel doesn't strike me as that big of a deal. I bet the hardest problem is keeping the hot section clean. At OPRs above 20, you can get just about anything to burn.

"100331-N-5549O-112 ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE (March 31, 2010) ... following a speech by President Barak Obama."

I double checked the photo caption on http://www.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=83850 and www.whitehouse.gov to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Sure enough, they misspelled the CINC's name. Well, seeing as the captions get aircraft recce wrong now and then what's a missing consonant here or there?

The REAL Green Hornet:

When you fly on the Green Hornet's wing, is your callsign "Kato?"

Anyway, it may be a publicity stunt, but it might be worthwhile someday. If the excrement hits the fan in Iran or thereabouts, and there's an another oil embargo, I'd like to at least have the option of using something other than hope, rainbows, and wishful thinking to power our military aircraft.

The BIG question is "what does biofuel smell like when you man up @ 0600 so hung-over you're afraid you're gonna puke at any moment?" JP-5 at that moment was particularly nauseous, so one can only hope biofuel is easier on the stomach & brain.

I hear vehicles running on biofuel smell like french fries. My flight suits all small like jet fuel and hydraulic fluid. I can't wait to come home smelling like I worked at Micky D's all day. (yes...that was sarcasm, in case you didn't catch it)

Oh, and I thought the Green Hornet comment was referring to our CinC's complexion in the photo. He does look a little green.

I had a buddy with a boat that he would run on straight recycled cooking oil. He had to run it on diesel for maybe 15 minutes or so to warm up, then swap the tanks. You could always tell when he switched because everyone started wanting MickeyD's. . .

I've met a couple guys who started making their own biodiesel for their cars and trucks. It takes a lot of work, and an understanding wife, just to save a few bucks.

Wow, it's "PI" ("Princeton Idiot"). Got to meet him at PAXRIVER Air Expo last year. Good dude!
He being one of the many NASA pilot naval astronaut applicants, ironic that he'd be the one with Obama when he just killed our manned spacecraft program. Could only imagine what "PI" was thinking when he met him...

There was talk about how the BUFFs (B-52s) had tested the biofuel in cold Minot Wx back in '06.

Good that there is an alternate source of fuel to supplement the petrolium-based ones.

Anybody got good ideas of what we can use as an alternate food source after we turn all of our corn and soybeans into ethanol and JP-5?

Nobody seems to think about that shit.

The better question is where are we going to grow our alternate food source? Farm land is becoming scarcer as the world procreates.
