F/A-18 in Centennial Co. (KAPA)

Third times a charm
Saw it on final on my way home from work, parked at the local Signature Flight support ramp. Anybody know why it is there. I have not heard/seen anything regarding a static display or anything.

Perhaps it was a stop on a cross-country?

We had a VX-9 F/A-18 on the General Dynamics apron at MSP for a few days last summer..

Yes, you will occasionally see military aircraft at civilian fields.

I know that Sir, just wondering if anybody knew anything about a meet and great or anything. Sure would love to to get my hands on that bird. If he was on a cross country, why stop and Centennial instead of Buckley AFB?

2ndGen,
Instead of having to deal with the "red line of death" at BKF, I would rather go to the civilian FBO. I have done this down south in the Springs, said the hell with Peterson AFB, and headed over to CO Jet Center instead, better hours to get gas. Besides, FBO hottie probably already got the rental if I called ahead.

You should let me know if or when there are any more coming through. I would love to get a closer look it at all possible. If some vipers or other interesting planes come through that would be awesome, too.

You can't really see 'em from the other side of the fence... Not sure how'd you get to the other side.

Plus, I'll be departing this frozen hell shortly on my way to Germany.

Sorry.

Do VX aircraft eventually make their way to VFA/VAQ/etc. squadrons once the test squadron is done with them? Or are they permanently VX-attached? I don't know anything really about how the test squadrons work.

Airframes are constantly being moved around the Navy so as to accomodate high airframe hour planes and high trap-count planes.

My one and only S-3 ride came in '74 when VX-1 was sending one of our S-3s to VS-20something (VS-21?). Non-stop Pax River to North Island. I was going on emergency leave and the squadron took care of it's own...

JA-1 on the other hand... A special mission configured P3-A is probably still there.
