Pilot described as "missing," still hopeful for the best. Applies to Naval Aviation because look where he went down...any studs/instructors down at Whiting involved in search efforts? Seems to me they would be remiss to ignore an enormous helo fleet right in their backyard...

Can't forget that the on-scene checklist is like other squadrons in the Navy...the "owner" (CO or in the case of TH-57s, the Commodore of TW-5) has to authorize the use of the helos as a SnR.

Navy traffic talked about 2 F-18s launched out of Whiting to assist in marking location...but that's all I've heard. Doesn't sound good...though...prayers as always to the pilot in peril and their fam.

Fortunately the plane did not make it to the Gulf and will be able to be thoroughly investigated by the FAA/NTSB/FBI....as for the pilot who checked into a hotel under an alias......I hope for his sake he was not the same one who is "missing"....and if it is, I hope he was the cuts and medical attention to back up his reported EP. For all you"no speculation junkies"....this is purely regurgitation of fact.

Why do I have a feeling that we are going to see more of these situations in the not too distant future...

My wife and I were wondering what was up with the jets over Milton..... I figured they were flying in and out of Whiting for some reason. Turns out the wreck isn't too far (5 miles or so) from our place

I hope they find this guy soon if they haven't already. What a piece of work...

I hope that he gets put under the jail, did they say if the plane hit anything or landed in a remote area? I live in Milton, just curious..

"Missing pilot, financial manager known as smooth operator"

,financial manager known as smooth operator

(CNN)
-- Missing Indiana financial manager and pilot Marcus Schrenker is a smooth talker

I'm only posting this because I thought you guys would like the title.. Freakin hilarious... Although he may have been a "smooth operator," he didn't do a great job planning his "suicide by plane."

It's still a cool story though.

The guy is an idiot. If you are going to fake your death with some sort of D.B. Cooper style bailout scenario, don't go to the cops to find a ride into town. It appears that he was trying to ditch his plane in the gulf and erase all the evidence. Oops, too bad it nearly hit a neighborhood and all the evidence is intact. I live in M-town, and I was wondering what all the ruckus was on Sunday night (jets flying around overhead), I thought the Eglin range was just a little louder than it normally is.

You guys gotta watch the CNN video for this. I can't find the link right now but if you scroll through, the footage of fighters scrambling to intercept this delta bravo was stock footage of two F-4s taking off into the wild blue yonder of 'Nam.

Classic. Even my fiance is like aren't those planes old as hell?
