Forgive me for being an ignorant wanna-be, but how does a 1v1 with a Prowler an a F-16 work.

Jeff

Basic Fighter Maneuver Counters (BFMC), ie: ACM for Prowlers, is not about winning the fight, it is about getting out of it alive. You learn the basics of what a fighter might try and do to shoot you down, and you try out ways to avoid getting shot. And yes, sometimes a Prowler walks away with its ass intact........;)

It's not so distant cousin, the EF-111, was engaged in early hours of Desert Storm by a Iraqi Mirage F1 and the crew awarded the DFC after they successfully evaded its missile attack and the Mirage crashed in the attempt due to defensive actions by the Raven.

I cannot help but laugh when I read this and then reconsider the original question re: "what happens" when a Prowler meets an F-16 1V1?

Answer: they do lunch. And the Prowler is it. :)

Like we said ... unless the fighter guy is a retard ...

That DFC winning "killer" EF-111? Thank God for American pilots. Never say die. :icon_zbee

Well, invite politely to check out this thread or take a cross-country to Fallon. Maybe she missed the F-16N that was especially built for the Navy and was operated by TOPGUN, VF-126, VF-45 and VF-43 in late eighties until mid nineties, but retired prematurely over issues of airframe stress. Or maybe she missed the return of the F-16 in Navy markings when the current F-16A/Bs arrived.

Show her this one....Prowler returning after 1 v 1 against NAVY Viper..in fact, that just might be a Prowler ECMO in back of Viper. Better yet, tell her to contact Brett. He and I were talking prior to this event. He could clue her in ECMO to ECMO.

HJ is well informed. That is an ECMO in back of the Viper and I'm in the Prowler. Great way to end the det! :D

In daylight the Prowler is a grape, but you'd be very surprised at what you can pull off at night with a few of the right pods with no AWACS or E-2 cueing them and us willing to turn the lights off.

The Tomcat is the only radar that stood a chance, saddled in numerous times behind Hornets, Eagles and Lawn Darts rolling in after the merge as they went by heads down in the scope trying to work through our jamming and give them a trons-trons-trons call

Fighting fair? Never! and that's the point.

Damn Pugs, you stole my thunder.....I remember getting two FOX TWO's off on some airwing Hornets..."Two hornets shot by a Prowler, how'd that happen?"

They had all kinds of excuses....Lead nose, Heads down....more like heads in their rears..... :D :D

It was at night and we didn;t have NVD's.....and our strobes were blasting away.

What's the rule about pilots drinking, no booze 24 hours before flight? Any different with NFOs?
All aircrew follow the same rules.
OPNAVINST 3710.7T Chapter 8 said:
Alcohol — The well-recognized effects (i.e., intoxication and hangover) are detrimental to safe operations. Consumption of any type of alcohol is prohibited within 12 hours of flight planning. adherence to the letter of this rule does not guarantee a crewmember will be free from the effects of alcohol after a period of 12 hours. Alcohol can adversely affect the vestibular system for as long as 48 hours after consuming, even when blood-alcohol content is zero. Special caution should be exercised when flying at night, over water, or in IMC. In addition to abstaining from alcohol for 12 hours prior to flight planning, flightcrews shall ensure that they are free of hangover effects prior to flight. Detectable blood alcohol or symptomatic hangover shall be cause for grounding of flight personnel and the restriction of the activities of aviation ground personnel.
