Awase Meadows in Okinawa is really nice. So is the one on Kadena AB. K-Bay was good, but if you're only in Hawaii for a short time try Turtle Bay. They have a PGA quality course and have a great military discount.

Not that it matters too much for a divot digger like me. Good times, though....

NAS JAX has to be one of the best military courses I've ever been on.

Alright, I hate to revive a dead thread, but I'm gonna do it anyways, hopefully.

I am stuck in Kingsville, TX and all we have is the absolute piece of shit L.E. Ramey Golf Course. HORRIBLE course in every way. Greens suck, fairways aren't watered, no rough at all (good or bad, depending on how you look at it), and not much in the way of a challenging layout.

So I am wondering if there are any good military courses around or courses that have good military discounts. I am interested in anything south of San Antonio and north of Mexico. If anyone has any experience with courses in this area, good or bad, I would love to hear it.

I love the Navy, I really do, but if this is your determining factor, go Air Force man.

True that. Standing joke is USAF builds the O'Club and golf course before they build the runway. I was an Air Force brat and I remember staff assignments getting one afternoon off during week for golf. I also know several Air Force guys who who retired and went straight to becoming a Golf Pro. USAF = Golf (+ascots). So if you like 2 outta 3 (flying, golf and/or ascots); Aim High!

You have the NAS Corpus course, which sucks..but it's really windy too. I usually played at Northshore in Portland, which is pretty decent. They had a pretty good military discount. That was 5 years ago though, so I'm not sure how it is these days.

I ran across this link, which may or may not help: http://www.texasoutside.com/golf/southtexas.htm

So I eventually found an answer to my own question. Corpus Christi Country Club allows military officers to join the club. They don't charge an initiation fee, dues are $252 a month plus a $250 annual range fee (which they will prorate), and they only ask that you give them 2 weeks notice when you plan on terminating your membership. They are very understanding of the nature not only of our service, but of the very transient lifestyle of flight students (we almost move more often than gypsies). The facilities are top notch (huge full service clubhouse, nice pool, fitness room, golf and tennis pro shops, 11 lighted tennis courts, and an incredibly well maintained course with a great, challenging layout and immaculate bermuda greens. Top notch place. I am pissed I didn't know about this in primary. It's located on Saratoga and Everhart. Hope to see some of you guys out there, unless you're in 27, in which case keep sharpening your Hitler youth knives and stay away from me.

EDIT: Kings Crossing has a similar military deal which is cheaper, but from what I have heard from absolutely everyone, it is a shit hole. A few guys at Corpus Christi CC used to belong over there, but couldn't stand the crappiness of the place.

Does the course at NASNI still have the flashing lights to warn about aircraft on approach? I always thought it was cool to stand there waiting to make a shot while an S-3 passed overhead.

If any or your shots are in danger of hitting a bird on final then I have to suggest you get a lesson or three....

But yes, the last nine still has a nice view of the approach.

Be careful about hitting/retrieving balls in the water there....there are gators everywhere.

I also caught an 8lb bass out of one of the water hazards one day.....and the 12' gator was looking at me when I was reelin him in.

I was there in 1982 and there were blue flashing lights posted by some of the holes under the approach area, with a sign saying to hold your shot when they were flashing.
