We got a Tempurpedic last September (queen size) and I like it. I like the fact that it conforms to your body, and I feel like I sink in but supported at the same time. Which I'm sure doesn't make sense...

I have back problems, and my lower back pain has stopped since getting it. It could be a combination of the bed and exercises I do, but I know it hasn't hurt the situation.

I travel at least 1-2 times a month and I can tell the difference in the matresses, though it doesn't help that Japanese matressess are hard in general. I always look forward to coming back to my Tempur.

We got ours at the NEX which I think was just slightly cheaper than waiting till we got back to buy it from a civilian dealer.

We have a king Sealy "Crown Jewel" ... top of the line ... 5 years old .... it sucks, now. Very disappointed ....

I'm lookin' for a "pretend" mattress now instead of the more traditional offerings ... something along the lines of a Tempur-Pedic (?) or Select Comfort ???

Anyone have any experience with these ... ??

Select comfort are def worth the money. My wife and I stayed at a hotel a couple years back that had one and it is definitely the most comfortable mattress i have ever slept on. We will probably invest in one as soon as we get stationed somewhere more permanently.

We have a CA king (their "luna" model) and it is absolutely amazing. Can't hype it enough: cheaper and as good or better than tempurpedic.

P.S. .... I don't want ANYTHING that will "make" you sweat. I.e., the "foam" mattresses don't sound like they fit the bill, in this case.

Anyone care to correct an old man's apprehensions???

Sweating or farting at night (take your pick) + foam mattresses = potential BAD ju-ju.

You can get the pad as well (the lower density foam in that pad lets air circulate better). Generally it seems that the multi-layer foam mattresses do a lot better with the getting hot issue (though they are more expensive). I can't vouch for the fewer-layer types.

Sounds like foam = sweat. Tempur Pedic ???

And those mattress applications incorporate a lot of band aids to try and ameliorate it ... ???

Sorry, I wasn't clear. We don't use a pad and don't have a problem with being too hot. But I have heard other people complain and for some the other pad was a solution. Since we are happy with ours I can't say I paid close attention to other people's complaints. Know anybody with a memory foam mattress in their guest room? That is probably your best bet.

I had a tempurpedic CA king. It was great. I honestly could not feel my 120 pound Chocolate Lab jumping on the bed, or my 300 pound ex getting in or out. Never had a problem with it. No sweating on my side, but the ex did complain of that. (she's one of those who gets up to funk with the thermostat/fan 10 times a night)

I have a lower end Sealy in the Puma (RV King size) and its not bad, but you can hear the springs.

My wife and I bought a Sealy Posrurpedic top of the line 2 years ago and it already is sunken in. She weighs 130 and I weigh 170 so not like we are to FATA$$ES sleeping on it. STAY AWAY from Sealy. As for the selectcomfort we tried one out at a hotel and it was AWESOME, but unfortunately they are WAY expensive.

Tempurpedic...you will never go back. I am an unquestioned "cool" sleeper, and it has never bothered me, even with a down comforter. I would however reccomend that if you are concerned, avoid their "Grand, Bella Sona, Celebrity or Rhapsody" lines and go with the classic or original. These others just add more padding on top of the foam and are less comfortable to both my wife and I, as well as being "warmer".

Rumors of sweaty foam are greatly exaggerated.;)

Bates...your ex weighs more than you do...she would sweat in a meat locker.

In all seriousness, quality of sleep is exceptional. Left to my own devices, I normally sleep about 7 to 7.5 hours on the Tempurpedic to feel comparably rested to a 10-11 hour sleep on a "premium pillow top" mattress. Trouble with the pillow top was that invariably after that long in the bed, I would wake up with stiffness and aches in my back.

Two other huge points. My wife is a night owl...when I am flying we scarcely ever go to bed at the same time and she has never once woken me up getting into, or sleeping in the bed. (Well...at least not unless it was intentional...:D) Lastly, the wife and I used to fight over stiff vs.soft mattresses. The tempurpedic is just right for both of us.

Expensive...but worth every penny and then some. PM if you have more specific questions.

<<EDIT>> I believe that Holiday Inn now has Tempurpedic mattresses in their hotels. Not 100% about the chain...but one of the major brands...If you are interested, and don't want to spring for the in home trial, stay at one of their rooms for a few days and see what you think. Fair warning though...give it a few days. The first night or two, while not uncomfortable, take some getting used to.

I got a top end tempur-pedic. Never go back to coil springs again.
This thing is a sweet night's sleep just waiting for you.
As was mentioned, not sweat inducing at all, and you don't feel any other movement on the bed (dog, wife, whatever).

Worth a few grand IMHO. I wouldn't chintz on something you spend 1/3 or more of your life on.
