Help Me Decide on a College

Here are acouple choices that were recommended to me:

University of Michigan
University of Maryland
Ohio State

The big things I'm looking for is what school has a better reputation of accepting military credits and how the ROTC program deals with active duty military going through for commisioning programs (I know you guys have an acrynom for it).

Are there any people here that have gone to any of the above schools under a program like STA-21.

Wow, quite a quality spread there...starting with the best school and ending with the gayest :D.

In all seriousness, a majority of the OCs/MECEPs we had at Michigan actually did the cross-town thing from EMU because A.) Michigan was too damn expensive and B.) Eastern was more accepting of Navy brand credits. As far as treatment of the prior enlisted guys, it depends on the day honestly. I never saw any real problems for them from the point of view of a random dirty Middy but there was a fair amount of bitching from a lot of the OCs about their treatment.

You know it is COLD up in Michigan/Ohio/etc....

I would recommend a school in the Southern U.S. or SoCal.. The side benefit of that is the chicks wear less clothing and don't put on 'Winter Weight'.. They are either fat or not, much more easily predicatable... Now if you are married then disregard... Might as well go to somewhere in Alaska then hang around hot 20 year olds... But what do I know.. Went to college coming up on damn near 20 years ago.. But it was in Florida and A+ in my book! :icon_wink

Ohio State.

Its The Ohio State University. If your gonna go there you need to get it right. ;)

Also going (or mearly being in the state) buys you a seat for the biggest rivalry in College Football. All the Texans and Alabamians in the world cant take that away.

What kind of degree are you interested in?

Are you getting out to attend college, or do you plan on applying for an officer program? Extended campus?

Military credits are transfered differently depending on the school. For example, if you are active duty in an aviation field and attend a college with an aviation program, then you will probably have more transferable credits at that college.

Just some things to think about, but as BoomBoom pointed out you can't go wrong in SoCal or somewhere it's warm.

We actually considered all 3 of these. My husband is going in for Mechanical Engineering. University of Michigan requires you to have practically ALL undergrad general ed done before you come in as a transfer student (Calc III included). Their transfer prerequsites was something that I found very demanding.

University of Maryland is close to home for us, but housing compared to BAH in that area is rediculous. U of MD College Park is not in the best part of town and the traffic on the beltway is unimaginable. U of MD Baltimore Campus is again in not such a hot area of town.

The Ohio State was expensive and housing options in the area weren't so appealing.

All seemed to accept the same amount of Military prior learning experience credits, just some basics and electives, nothing to really amount to anything. What really helped him is that he has been going to school full time for the last 2.5 years, since we got to shore duty here in Groton. They took all those credits, but having math and physics completed is saving us very valuable time!

Hope this helps!

Stashed...again.
If you want Navy Credits to transfer go to Old Dominioni University.

While this statement might hold some truisms, I think that would be a bias and unfair assumption. Other schools accept "Navy Credits" to a varying degree. I do know that there are university's the are not as liberal with accepting our credits, so that does bring up a point. The best way to find out is to talk to the academic advisors and ROTC units to see what they will and will not accept, and make your decision based on that.

As far as which university, of those three, I wouldn't recommend any of them, however, if these are your colleges you are selecting from, I would suggest that you go with the university that 1) accepts all or is most liberal with regards to SMART/Prior college credit acceptance, 2) Financially fits into the equation (remember, most student loans are deferrable until 6 months after graduation, but there are other accumulative cost involved) 3) Will the university be best to achieve my goals.

One of the most aggravating things I have witnessed is people bragging about what college they attended and graduated from. The reality is, with the exception of other alumni from that school, NO ONE CARES! Networking is a great tool from college, but the name or prestige drives nothing but pride and tuition!

That's just my $0.02

Currently attending ERAU, but will be transfering to Hampton University.

Well, I'm an IS that crossrated from CTM with one NEC for both rates. I loved being a CTM so I think I would be happiest getting a computer science degree or some type of. I plan to submit a package for STA-21 by the way.

As far as money goes, my Mom lives close to University of Michigan and probably EMU so I could crash there to save money.

Can anyone give me about how many credit hours they received for their enlisted schooling?

you need to go to the school with the biggest footballl following, and one that has the best girl to guy ratio, most of my credits from enlisted days only counted as electives in college. Work hard in college, but make sure you have fun!!! a lot, you will never have a time like that again!!!
