SWO? What is this "SWO" you speak of?
I was wondering, since I could not find it anywhere else, what exactly is "professionally recommended"? I know it means you are accepted but does it mean you stood out in a certain way or someone put in a good word for you or something along those lines? Just a curiosity...

If one develops shin splints and needs some sort of pain medicine who is the best person to ask? The DI?

I get minor pain when I run, is the running that intense throughout all 12 weeks that I should be concerned?

search this thread, pretty sure it has been covered a few times now.

Professionally Recommended simply means you have submitted an application for a commission as an officer and a board that has reviewed your application believes you are a good candidate so they "professionally recommend" you. After a pro-rec you typically will complete the more detailed parts of the application process, like a security clearance and medical processing before being a "Final-Select". Once you are a FS you actually sign your contract and get an OCS date.

A professional recommendation is basically a conditional job offer. You still need to pass MEPS/security clearance/and the PRT but once these are completed you're in.

Thanks for the info. I already got my PRT, MEPS, and security clearance done, so I guess it is just more waiting... Ugh.

Alright, second question of the day... I got Pro-rec'ed for SWO, which was my first choice, but my second was Supply, and third was Intel. I asked my recuiter if I HAD to go with SWO, even if I get picked for either Supply or Intel, and he said yes, I have to go with SWO because it was my first choice. Although I would be happy with any of the three, is he correct? Thanks!

Application question.....do I send in my interview sheets and reference forms as part of my OCS package myself, or do they get sent in separately? My NC1 has the papers right now, but is basically holding them because he is not sure if I am supposed to see them before they are sent. So, how are these papers sent in?

I'm not sure if your recruiter is correct or not, but I'm curious why you'd put something down as a first choice if it wasn't really your first choice?

send everything together. if someone sends the board info thats scattered then they run the risk of looking like a disorganized idiot. take your time and get everything squared away and then submit. a lot less wait time on the back end too if you get your meps, prt, and security done before you even submit for pro rec...

i didnt read my LORs i just forwarded them to my recruiter and he set it all in with the application... thats actually why my application was held back for a couple weeks cause i was waiting on one more LOR that took a little longer cause my boss was traveling.

if its your first choice and you get selected then you gotta go with it. i was selected for all 3 of my choices and my recruiter said i'm going SNA cause it was my first choice. he never asked me to choose... prolly cause he figured i wanted SNA the most... and of course he was right...

this guy? http://www.optisurgicare.com/images/popup/s111.gif

nami will use the same depth test that meps used though right... only ocs will use the randot?

so nugget i think eventually we'll have to pass the meps/nami stereo test. we can only ride the civilian tests so far...

yea something like that i think. just take your time, don't let them push you through. IIRC (and don't quote this) i think you only need to get 6 of the 10 correct to pass. this might be wrong, surely someone knows exactly what the pass/fail requirement is.

1. What is this uniform situation? I have read that some ppl bought their uniforms from Brooks Brothers and some bought from a different one. Do you get to pick which place you want to buy from? What's the difference?
2. I'm taking my car. I have bought all the things ppl have suggested such as a head lamp, clear nail polish etc. Do I leave that stuff in my car when I get there or try to take it in with me? Just curious if they are going to let me go on a POV run after the first week or so.
Thanks for all your help. Any last minute tips for OCS would be great...I'm leaving in 8 days!!

1. At the uniform shop they had two different uniforms to choose from for the whites. Flying Cross was the more expensive of the two I believe. I didn't see that much difference in the look or quality of the uniform....Not enough to justify buying the more expensive one IMO. But yes, there are two types to choose from.

2. I would suggest leaving all of your things in your POV, you will not need any of them the first week while you're walking around in your poopy suit. We got our first POV run our second weekend there.

Last minute advice: Eat good food. And don't drink blue Powerade, you'll get your fill of it while you are there. :D
