Now that all of that has changed OCS is slowly changing. One big change is that the 30-60 minutes after taps or before reveille where you had to be in your room is gone now. One day a candio was explaining something to Master Guns and dropped 30-60 minute rule. "What, that happens?" responded Masters Guns. In one moment it was gone. Funny how such a small thing (or big thing in the minds of candidates) can go unnoticed for so long and then just disappear.

Actually they brought that back. They just came in one day and said "magic hours are back on". And I think them doing away with it had a little more to do with the guy in my class that pissed out his window one morning right as Major X was walking in to work almost hitting him (because of magic hours), and by that afternoon all the DI's are like "what is this magic hours? We've never heard of that... If you have to take a piss, go take a piss..." Riiiiight...:icon_roll

And about the 0630 Sunday wake ups I was talking more about how "The Black Ninja" decided one day to change it to 0615. He just wrote it on the board in the BOOD.

Harrier's recitation was spot on except doorbody for hatchbody. I can't tell you how many times we got slayed for the section leader saying "Report status of THE chow hall deck" or some such minor mistake.

I think they are trying to do away with it. Won't go in to the specifics, but thats what it appears to be.

Ken,
you will be here too. I felt the same way everyday up to this point (now its the graduates I see walking around). Its both great and a lot of hardwork. Your the man and will get it. It is night and day compared to being an OC. Playing dominos with a black ninja you once feared is a real big step into reality. I have no other motivating words cause its 0430 but stop me in the p way and maybe I'll have more to say...

I had the pleasure of watching Gunny J. and Chief C. deal with that.... Priceless.

Should you bring 3 months worth of toiletries, or just enough for the immediate future? Do they let you in with 3 months worth?

Physicality

So, I understand that the DIs will get physical with the candidates. Can anyone elaborate on this? Believe me, I am not afeared...I just want to be prepared. If you were raised by my dad, Army Nam vet, then taking a beating is taught at an early age. I just want a better idea of what to expect. What kind of beating, common reasons, is it okay to laugh...?

"Beatings" in OCS (as far as I know) refers to physical training. When I went through USMC Boot Camp in '92, the drill instructors didn't lay so much as a finger on me. They can still make it miserable though...

No.

Sucks to be you. They have counseling for that. Break the cycle.

Overall you won't be beaten. That's stupid. I'm not a Navy OCS guy, but I can tell you with a reasonably high degree of confidence that they're not going to absolutely hit you or abuse you. THey won't tickle you with feathers, and I won't say they don't touch you, but "beating" is a bit of a flowery word to use.

So that whole "PRIVATE PILE, KNEEL DOWN AND CHOKE YOURSELF!" from FMJ is just Hollywood?

No. It's just about 40 years outdated. Nobody is going to actually beat anybody in recruit and/or OCS training anywhere in the US these days. If they do, they'll be the ones who get crushed in the end. It's not tolerated at all.

Wait until SERE for that.

Hahaha...thanks for the input. Actually...it is great to be me and I am far from needing counseling. I always confronted my dad directly and let him know he was wrong. It is the people who suppress memories and feelings and believe that they are victims who need counseling. Truthfully, I don't regret anything...I am who I am because of how I was raised...and I am a strong person. I know that unprovoked physical violence is wrong and there is no reason to beat women, children, etc....so the cycle has already been broken. Maybe I should counsel others.

On the issue of "beatings" in OCS...it seems like I got the wrong idea. I see now that the "beatings" come in the form of physically demanding pt. I just needed some clarification.

Well, speaking of old timers, a retired Army officer friend of our families recanted a time where a sergeant was purposefully "rough" on him during physical force training. Didn't work out well for the sergeant.
