I'm not arguing your overall point, but I don't think Hamilton was the win Disney hoped it would be, considering they're hemorrhaging subscribers right now (I'll be one soon too when I'm up for renewal).

Certainly aged, but also better than doing everything in front of a UltaMat, like in the 40's-70's. I keep meaning to start watching BoB again. I've just been working through a couple of other shows slowly in the mean time.

Certainly, and it wasn't the same clip of the same plane being shot down over and over either.

Saw the third episode last night and I continue to be impressed how well they get things right or make an effort to get as close as possible, the German vehicles were either real or looked pretty damn close to it and weren't just T-34's with German crosses slapped on 'em. My kid hardly blinked an eye at legs getting blown off but was not a fan of the dude being run over by the tank though.

DisneyPlus subscribers went up by about 75% worldwide the weekend that Hamilton dropped, so it did what the Mouse wanted it to - got people to download the app. But I agree with your main point; attracting new subscribers with a marquee event, especially during lockdown when the movie theaters were all closed, is one thing. Keeping them is another, and it's a formula I don't think any of the streaming services have cracked yet. What I've read, most of Disney's subscriber losses lately have been in India, since they lost the rights to stream Indian Premier League cricket matches. And cricket is huge there, it's the equivalent of DirecTV losing NFL Sunday Ticket.

I read an article a while ago to the effect that the big studios' streaming services (as opposed to ones that stream content they buy, like Hulu) still haven't really adjusted to having to do business like an internet property - you gotta keep producing new content all the time or your audience loses interest fast - instead of a studio.

Anyone else watched "The Shepherd" on Disney? Short film, adapted from the classic novella by Frederick Forsyth.

I thought Travolta did a decent job with the film adaptation. The only gripe I had was that they put an ejection seat in the Vampire. RAF Vampires of the time did not have ejection seats, a fact that plays an important role in the book version of the story, but is ultimately not important in the short film.

Apple TV is teasing brief clips for the start of Master of the Air.

I assume this is a final approach to an airfield in Iceland and the movie work is nicely done.

I haven't paid attention to any of the previews so that I don't get spoiled before I start watching the series. Not sure if you have more, or less, discipline than me?!

The first part of the opening scene is very much like the opening scene of Greyhound (Yes, I’ll write) but quickly morphs to good war story telling. The actors were clearly taught what switches to toggle during checklists and the aviation scenes seem solid. There is one anomaly, a commissioned officer serving as a tail gunner. Sure, Clark Gable did it, but I can’t think of another example…maybe he is assigned as some kind of an aerial observer. That said, I could be mistaken in identifying the character.

My take…watch it…you won’t be disappointed.
