The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

Haven’t worn Type IIIs in so long, and don’t have a parka or fleece. Is leather flight jacket allowed to be worn with Type IIIs??
I would do almost anything to avoid wearing the abomination you’ve described. Types IIIs are already absurd. I’m trying to imagine what a waist length leather jacket over a long green camo blouse would look like.

To actually answer your question, technically no.

Howdy all. Newly winged aviator here, looking for the most recent recommendation for a place to purchase a quality leather nametag to be sewn onto the brown leather jacket. Excited to start wearing it and excited to hit the Fleet. Any and all recommendations are welcome!

Tipsy Gypsy. All others are inferior. If they are out of stock, just wait. You only get one.
Holy fuck, the guy want's $62 for a leather name patch? I used to go by his shop in Orange Park in the early 90s. Times have changed.

Rumor is he ramps up production to fuel his booze habits and the backlog gets pretty deep when he's not working. Honestly, I was not impressed with my TG patches. The name tag leather was dry and caused a shitty looking cracked crease and my squadron patch paint was dry and cracked and had weird un-sewable material at the bottom banner "corners" of the patch.

I bought the TG patches a long time ago. They have lived in a box somewhere in one of my rooms ever since. And the leather jacket has either lived in a box or maybe I got rid of it. Not really sure. Worn 0 times.

I wear my leather up in the PNW pretty often. IMHO the patch is expensive but it looks good, and it’s a buy once cry once thing. You can’t remove it once it’s on so get one you like. For chest patches, I like flight jacket.com or marinepatches.com

If TG is on a bender and the backlog is really long, Wings & Things does pretty good embossed leather work. I ordered mine from them 20 years ago and it's still holding up great. No chips, cracks, etc.

I’m also a big fan of the custom leather jackets you can get from Korea and Turkey. They’re still “G-1” jackets, but are of much higher quality. Pairs well with TG patches.

I think I’ve said it before, but whatever you do, don’t be the dude who gets the shitty paraloft issued flight suit leather name tag, and get it sewn on your leather. I knew one guy who did that, and ironically he didn’t make it..
