Recently saw an instagram post from a naval aviator saying that there is a new CNAF PED Policy which now restricts filming in the cockpit. Looks like there won't be anymore Cruise videos for the time being. Any particular reasons why they implemented this? My guess is security concerns.

This comes up every couple of years, usually citing security and/or safety concerns. Not a new thing at all. It's traditionally been possible to get waivers from the appropriate level for things like cruise videos (if they still make those).

For the movie, they had special permission from Uncle Sugar. They were also filming with a bit more than a "PED" in the cockpit.

Yeah I imagine for full scale productions it wont matter much. I did like the cloud surfing videos that a lot of regular aviators took.

Just saw it . . . dare I say it, but that was the rare case of the sequel outdoing the original. They really hit the perfect balance of honoring the original while breaking new ground. And taking enough artistic license to make a summer blockbuster for John Q. Public while listening enough to the winged folks to keep things from going totally into Bizarro World.

Oh, and some of those shots on the VR-1355? Whoever got to film those . . . fuck you, you fucking lucky bastards. That's the aviation equivalent of lucking into a one-night stand with Scarlett Johansson.

It’s new in that CNAF actual took enough interest to direct that an instruction be written. It’s mostly a security thing, particularly with many platforms having displays with increasingly sensitive material on them, the chance of an unintended security violation just isn’t worth it. As someone who has done a lot of photography from the cockpit, it’s a bummer, but ultimately good for business. It covers personal cameras, so I know that squadrons and type wings have already approved “government provided” cameras so people can continue to get cool footage for cruise videos, etc.
