Congrats!! As a new 1825, I highly recommend you get yourself assigned to a NIOC unit even if you have to travel. You'll thank me later after you pass your IP Basic and IDWO boards on your first try with flying colors. Finally got selected - 1825 / O-2

The NIOCs do an outstanding job in training our IP's.
NIOC units support the active duty NIOCs and the Active Duty folks signing your PQS will hold you to the same standards as an Active Duty IP, which is a blessing, IMHO. I am involved in the NAVIFOR qual surges and the IP's coming from NIOC Reserve units are sh*t hot. Thanks!
I'll initially be assigned to NIFR Region Washington DC and plan to attend ODS around June (my NWC course ends in May)
What are the benefits of a NIOC unit? as opposed to other units? I do want my first mobilization/deployment to be on a ship or overseas.
You should also be looking to get into the IWIREP program. There is a post on here somewhere with info on how to join, you can start working on your IWO quals at the same time. Thanks!

Can he be assigned to a NIOC as an IP? I don't think we had any IP officers at NRNIOC HI before.NIOC units support the active duty NIOCs and the Active Duty folks signing your PQS will hold you to the same standards as an Active Duty IP, which is a blessing, IMHO. As a prior enlisted submariner, I am biased towards a harsh qualification process and standard. It took me > 6 - 8 months to complete my qual card (working on it full time) and my actual board was 6 hours and I had multiple look-ups. I sucked badly.

You don't even need to wait. You can start collecting PQS signatures now. That IWIREP looks interesting. I’ll have to look into it once I’m on-boarded and past ODS.
Actually sorry PQS is different from warfare pin, but same things come into play. Have to wait until sworn in etc. They are signature for you warfare pin which you will start working on once you get assigned to a unit. You can't work on them before swearing in and likely won't be working on them until you have a clearance etc.
Once you get sworn in, you can start attending the IWIREP. They are unclassified and online meetings. You can get your sigs for the IWO PQS.Have to wait until sworn in etc.
Okay I’m guilty of that, I have to admit I have it watched, but still look at the various reserve threads thinking “maybe I missed something”. Best of luck!
Have your local Admin/Manpower take care of it. If you're Navy, have your nosc Admin process your signed form. The nosc will send it to PERS for approval. Probably will take a week or two turn around from PERS. Then you get it back from them and send to your OR to process your comdocs. Ensure to stay on top of it or else you might not get it on time especially with the covid and folks telework.Anyone know who handles conditional releases? Heard from my recruiter that he’s waiting for that before he can do anything.
