Just curious, when Marine aviators deploy to say, a carrier, where are they stationed when in port, are they basically inseparable from the Navy, and are based at the naval base, and train for their deployment with the Navy, or do they stay at the closest Marine air station and train separately? Are Marine aviators usually at Marine air stations, or do they base out of Naval air stations as well, when not deployed on a ship?

You will generally be at a MCAS. Once you start getting ready for a deployment, you start working about the ship, whether that's a LHD (amphib--helos and AV-8B) or CV (F-18).

As far as F-18 pilots go, when they are at port they are at their usual air station (Beaufort, Mirimar, etc...). When they deploy on a ship, for workups or 6 months, they fly out to the ship and are their during the time the ship is underway. When the ship comes back to it's home port, they fly off back to their home base.
