I second what cdyboy says. If you ace it the first time around, you don't have to worry about it again. Also, when you take it and get your scores, your scores can apply to the Navy or the Marines.... you don't have to take it separately for each.

This statement is untrue.

You may take the ASTB as many times as you wish in an effort to improve your score. Only 2 caveats apply:

1.) After the first exam, you must wait at least 30 days before you take the second. After the second exam and thereafter, you must wait at least 180 days between exams.

2.) Only the score from the most recent ASTB stays with you, and it applies for life. Even if you do worse your second time around, that score will be the one that counts.

You only take it again if and only if you didn't pass with high enough scores.

Sorry...It's all changed. You can only take it 3 times. 31 days between 1st and 2nd test and 91 days between 2nd and 3rd (and final) test. This came out with the new test forms 3, 4, and 5. The test is for the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.....only one test but different score standards.
