I am looking to purchase my next .45 I probably wont carry this since I already have a glock 40 that I carry. I am mostly going to use it for target shooting, but it will also be used for some IDPA shoots. I am already leaning towards one of the guns but my roommate, dad, and I all have different opinions on which one would be the best so I want to see what everyone here thinks.

The options are:

Taurus Pt1911

If you won't be carrying it, then why are two of the Kimber models designed for carry?

May I suggest an AR-15 carbine or pistol? With the proposed AWB-II coming up, might be good to get while the getting is good on EBR's, Full Capacity Magazines, etc..

xmid - The two kimbers still have a 4" barrel and for the type of shooting i do (IDPA) you do have to conceal the weapon as if it were being carried and draw it. Because of this I have looked into the carry type pistols as well providing they have at least a 4" barrel. Plus, just because I don't have to carry this new gun doesnt mean I wont...just not using carrying the weapon as a decision criteria.

Masterbates - I do not know much about the AR-15's other than I shot a bushmaster carbon 15 once. If it isnt to much trouble could you give me a few more details on what to look for? What are the AR-15 pistols like?

Should answer most questions on them. They are the small block chevy of guns. Can build one most anyway you like.

Using a stripped lower and a kit, you can build one for less than $600 if you shop around. Basically all you need is a soft mallet, punch set, needlenose pliers and a small screwdriver to build one from a kit.

Thanks. I will look into the AR-15 they seem to right in the price range of the 45's I was looking at too.

I'll second building an AR if you're looking at doing something different. I'm waiting on my stripped lower right now and plan on picking up a complete upper after OCS. There are so many options to choose from and you can go from a $600 beater to dropping several thousand on rails, optics, etc... The possibilities are endless and I can see it turning into an obsession (black rifle disease anyone?).
