What NRC considers competitive

Looking to go the DCO reserves route. Interested in IWC mainly MCWO or Intel. Have two years civilian experience in IT field. All other professional background unrelated to IT but good chance I will be starting a new job in IT soon.

Age: 38M
Bachelors: BS - Information Science and Technology
GPA: 3.5

Combined 14 years between AD and reserves. Currently an EM1 active reservist and LPO of my unit so hoping that my Navy job and leadership experience would give me a boost in being competitive.

Bachelors in Science of Computer Science. (Highly ranked university in US)
GPA:3.42
OAR: 52
I am the US citizen.
My wife and my mom is not the US citizen.

Before graduating from college, I gained civilian experience as a restaurant manager. I have also been a small business owner for seven years, currently operating two stores. I had another store that closed during the pandemic. I believe these experiences have contributed to my leadership abilities.

I am currently considering my options for a Navy Officer position:
1st: I believe IP is my best option.
2nd: I am also interested in this area. I have taken several internet-related courses (CCNT lectures) and cybersecurity courses (Security+ lectures), though I do not currently hold certifications. I do have the concept of the cyber.
3rd: I don't know yet.

I am unsure if I am eligible for IP or Cyber positions due to my family members not being U.S. citizens.(My recruiter said I would be fine just put whatever I like) My recruiter also mentioned that the Supply Corps is full this year. As a result, I am struggling to decide on my last option. I would appreciate any suggestions for positions that might be a good fit for me.

You have a good GPA, where you went to school doesn't matter.

Where your wife and mom are citizens of will matter. When you fill out the NASIS it will get a preliminary review and if there is an issue they will pull your application, the worst I saw was a person selected then was deemed ineligible due to family member affiliation.

Given your age you options are limited, many of the designators with higher age limits will rarely select a person who puts them either 2nd or lower, if they are under the IWC umbrella it shouldn't matter. Your best bet is to try for IP, CW and MCWO and see what happens.

Thank you for you suggest. Do you know what is the main different between CW and MCWO? I did some research, but The MCWO is looks new. So it barely have information about it.

Hi everyone, I am trying to become an aviator. Here are my numbers:
Age 35M
Bachelors in Science of Computer Science
GPA:3.1
OAR: 65
ASTB: 8/7/8
Prior-service: Army Reserve 8 years
No Flight Experience.
What are my chances of getting selected as SNA/NFO?

not a great chance simply because of your age.

Thank you for your input. Sadly I cannot improve that part...🥲
Don’t make that stop you from trying. Age waivers are a thing even though the chances are low. At 35 now, you will be 36-37 by the time you get to OCS and possibly even 38 by the time you start schooling in Pensacola depending on how backed up it is. That puts you realistically at 40-41 before entering the fleet as an aviator. I advise you to still try, the worst they can say is a definitive no and you will have made peace with the situation because you tried. Good luck.

Edit: your GPA and ASTB scores are competitive, so you have that going for you and helping your case.

I am surprised the recruiter had you take the ASTB being so far out from the max age. I would be surprised if the board approved that age waiver, NRC essentially rubber stamps waivers and let's the board decline.

Thank you for your input. Sadly I cannot improve that part...🥲

I've only seen age waivers go up maybe 1-2 years, primarily for prior/current enlisted with aviation experience (only one I can think of is a prior enlisted AW/aircrew with over 1000 hours).

Otherwise, it hurts community health for someone who cant fully serve 30 years of commissioned service before stat retiring.

Hey guys I have a question about OCS, I have a 3.8 gpa, and im going to get my cyber security degree to become a cryptologic warfare officer. I'm applying to join the BCPS program. With a gpa like that and that degree, whats the lowest I can score on the OAR to be competitive for CWO?

What are the chances of me getting selected for the SWO Program?

No prior service
Undergrad 2.6 GPA
OAR 59
Master's 3.8
Age 35
U.S citizen

I've written a statement highlighting my career progression and personal growth, emphasizing the skills and accomplishments I have achieved. This includes earning two certifications PMP (Project Management Professional) and CompTIA Security+, which demonstrate my commitment to professional development

According to the SWO‘s PA, you may need an age waiver. But otherwise, your Master’s GPA and OAR seem competitive, at least from what I see here and on Reddit

You are not just over the age limit for SWO you are over the waiverable age limit.
