
At conclusion of the formal signing of the surrender instrument by Japanese officials aboard USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, General MacArthur turned to Admiral Halsey, Commander 3rd Fleet, and told him to bring on NavAir. 450 carried based aircraft flew over in waves followed by B-29s.
