USS MIDWAY MUSEUM - Memorial Day "Meet The Aviators" Open House Event - 26-27 May 2013

An Open House will be held aboard the retired warship on Sunday & Monday, 26 & 27 May 2013, from 1000-1500 each day in San Diego, CA. Former Naval Aviators who flew from the deck of "MIDWAY MAGIC" from her commissioning just after WWII, until retirement in the early '90s, will be available at their type/model display aircraft to explain their missions, discuss their aircraft, and answer questions of visitors.

Great opportunity for San Diego area AWs to meet & greet each other. Don't yet know if Catmando or Renegade One are taking part, but Cat flew Phantoms & R1 Tomcats on MIDWAY, & R1 is involved in the planning for the event. On Monday only, BusyBee604 will be standing by his trusty MIDWAY C-1A COD "Schoolboy 7OO" which I flew as CTPC on the '71 deployment, and as the COD OinC "CodFather" on the '72 "Line Backer II" adventure. The COD SQUAD motto then was "Unarmed, Unescorted and Afraid! Hope to meet some of our AW Shipmates there on Monday.

Don't yet know if Catmando or Renegade One are taking part, but Cat flew Phantoms & R1 Tomcats on MIDWAY, & R1 is involved in the planning for the event. Well, I didn't fly Tomcats ON MIDWAY, since she never operated Tomcats in her air wing, but yeah, I'll be working Tomcat duty Monday PM.

BTW, What did MIDWAY/CVW-5 use for Fighters during the Tomcat era. Did they retain their Phantoms until the Hornets hit the fleet... '87ish?
